How much work are your rising 5yos in?

Mines off eventing this summer so she does one jump session a week (nothing big, mostly small stuff to work on technique).
Conditioning in the field twice a week which she absolutely loves.
She does flat twice a week but these are sessions under 20mins. She's good at dressage but it's not her favourite thing so we keep them short and sweet.
She'll then hack one other day or have it off. She'll also hack on her conditioning days.

Helpful thread in showing there really isn't any set plan - you've got ones doing nothing, to everything, to a bit in between lol!

My rising 5yo is a bit behind due to an injury just after backing last year setting us back 6 months! She's currently ridden 6x a week- mainly hacking, but she goes into the school after every hack though for a canter on each leg, as she is still quite weak in canter. Has been to a couple of shows, eventer training and sj at 70cm, got our first mini event in April. Hoping to be doing BE80s by mid season and BE90 by end of year.

Mine is just turned 5 (January foal), he's working in the school three times a week and hacking twice (usually led off my other horse for practical reasons, but sometimes ridden). In the school he does flatwork once, polework once and jumps once a week - usually 30-40 minutes in duration. He'll be competing hopefully a couple of times a month over summer with the aim for maybe a small (under 75cm ODE / HT before the end of the season). He's 14,1 hence conservative sized jumping aims!

Mines 5 in a couple of months and has spent the winter hacking twice a week, don't have a school so as soon as the paddock dries up he will be doing some schooling and upping the work!

Only aim really is to get out to a few inhand shows and a bit of clear round jumping! :)

i generally stick to 3yo(once backed) do 3 x a week, big break over summer, then 3 x week again in autumn in prep for 4yo classes.

4yo x 4 a week and 5yo upwards x 5 per week. Ours mostly have 2 days a week off as can go out all day every day.

might only be 10/15 mins for the 3 and 4yo but i dont personally feel letting them run riot until they are 5yo is helpful to a good work ethic.

My girl was backed and lightly ridden at 3, she had the winter off and came back into work very late spring, did 2-3 days a week just learning the basics, and an intro test late summer early winter of her 4th year, she will be 5 in June of this year and currently does 1-2 x hacking, 2 x schooling max of 45 minutes, mainly walk & trot 1 x polework session with a little cross pole and a small amount of canter work.

The plan is to get her out and about (once her loading issues are sorted) to some clear round 60-70cm classes, clinics and some more intro tests, with lots of hacking thrown in now spring is almost here, she generally has 2-3 days off a week, if the weather is rubbish sometimes more, nothing is set in stone and i go by how she seems and what my ins says is beneficial/useful etc.,

Cheers All, great to see different aims/ work ratios :).

Ossy generally lunges 2/3 times (with poles dotted about), schools 2/3 times with a lesson once a fortnight and my yard owner long lines or rides him out on the roads twice a week (as I'm not a big fan of hacking but going out and looking at stuff really settles him in the school).

We are moving to a busier yard soon and hope that being surrounded by more competitive/ active riders will shimmy us along a bit :).

Mine is out eventing first time next week and will be aimed at the BE 5yo classes so he's doing a reasonable amount of fitness/strengthening work. He will be eventing every 2-3weeks or thereabouts!

Lunge 1x week in pessoa for 25mins, flatwork 2x week fairly intense 30mins, canter fitness/hack 2x week 40 mins (just over 7 miles at mainly trot and canter), jump 1x week at most usually grid work.

He is already competing at 90 SJ and arena ODE's. Will do a few events at 90 then step up to 100.
He is pretty laid back and mature mentally. Raced as a late 3yo over hurdles, had time off and restarted as a late 4yo. Having had a fractured pelvis while in training I work to build his strength behind, he still had a racing frame last year so is physically still getting stronger and is filling out due to his start and being kept lean.

i dont personally feel letting them run riot until they are 5yo is helpful to a good work ethic.

Mine hasn't run riot, he has been trained in-hand, worn tack, gone out to see the world etc... but he's so immature physically that leaving him unbacked for longer was definitely the right decision. :)

Mine hasn't run riot either!!!
He is 5 in August and did six weeks of work late last year then had the winter off due to injury. I'm now starting to walk him out in hand with tack on and will probably jump on him before long. He will do very little this year other than hack out, maybe a touch of schooling and a fun ride later in the year.
I really don't believe in rushing them...he is a friesian x warmblood so still has a fair bit of physical and mental maturity to develop. I would rather do everything slowly and still have him sound later in life than knacker his legs etc up by pushing him too hard when he is not yet capable :)
