As you might know Shadow my beautiful 4 year old TB gelding was put to sleep just two weeks ago due to severe navicular and DJD.
Last week the old boy, a 16yo TB gelding went 'lame' with stringhalt type symptoms which the vet isn't sure about. Tuesday he reared (which is very out of character) and got stuck on the electric fence and lacerated his front legs.
This morning my new younster, Stitch a 15 month old Friesisan X came in from the field with two cuts. The emergency vet has been out and the news isn't good. He has a puncture wound on his achilles tendon, the swelling is massive and the poor fella can't bear any weight on the leg. My usual vet coming out tomorrow morning to scan it and possibly refer him for an op to open up the wound for assessment. It may or may not be an injury from a pellet gun!??? The only other possibilty would be a cut off a hawthorn tree thorn but it doesn't look like it.
I am devastated as he is in so much pain, bless him though he was good as gold for the vet and is being a real sweety.
The vet has given him a massive dose of anti-inflamms, antibiotics and a tetanus shot (he's only just had his first injection a week ago).
To top it all off he isn't covered on the insurance yet as he's not been with me long enough.
I have long since thought I shouldn't have horses with my luck, but this has confirmed it!!
feeling very sorry for myself but sorrier for my baby and just had to let it out.
Healing vibes please!!
