I hope I am not being out of order asking this but in the next few weeks I will probably be joining the world of horse hunting. I haven’t done this for a very long time so out of touch with the market. I was wondering what you would feel to be a good budget to start with?

The type of thing I would be looking for would be
15.3 – 16.1 of Irish background. Preferably ID x
Age, 5 – 7
Potential Along the lines of eventing, I prefer jumping but an all rounder would be good. But would probably only now jump as high as 1.10m as I am getting old,
I am down South if that makes any difference.

I have a feeling I am living in la la land with my budget but just wanted to see what others thought.

Many thanks

6-8k should get you something decent and smart that will jump round a 1.10 sj and be a nice all rounder. may be a green event type.

Thank you, thats really helpfull. :) think I better do a bit more serious saving. That's probably the reason I got strange looks when I said to friends "up to £5000" :o I am seriously out of touch..

A friend of mine just sold very similar to what your after- She was asking more but due to circumstances had to accept a far lower offer at a fair bit under £5000, No help to you really but its worth looking while you carry on saving maybe?

Nooo!

You should easily get one for £5000 in this market. We bought a 4yr old IDxTB with a hint of warmblood and great pedigree for £3k two years ago when the market was better. At 5yrs I would have paid £4k. You may have to do some work with it.

My friend has just sold a 15.2 that has done and won everything at local level (unaffiliated) for £5000 and it took her two months to sell it... Prices will come down again at the end of summer too...

Good luck.x
