How much would pay for a good quality youngster?

I have just seen my dream horse but unfortunately I don't have the funds and feel I'm not a good enough rider but anyway...

Of you could see potential in a youngster ie go intermediate+ BE/ Prix St George BD/ jump Foxhunters. What would you pay?

The horse above was £6500 as a 4 year old would you pay this much.
 
There are a lot of things that would contribute to how much I would pay. For a youngseter that would do some of the things you have suggested, 6500 is not crazy. I have seen people pay more than that for 4 year olds. Especialy well bred mares. A lot of people think it is crazy to spend that much on horses but if you see the potentail and ability to do that level of competition and win, and you think you can take that horse to that level then the value is there.
 
Up to three times that for the right youngster.
4 year old dressage horses with excellent breeding and lots of potential are often around £20k.
 
someone said to me that if you are looking for a decent good quality youngster you should be looking to pay at least £5000
 
If I had the money, and it was the one, then would have no upwards limit! Unfortunately, most of us have a limit that stops us paying large amounts, if that makes sense?! I paid Max I could and would justify for my (then) youngster, if i'd had 6.5k to spend, i would have! Hope that makes sense!?
 
If you like the horse a lot then I would think that's very reasonable. I have heard of people paying in the region of £10,000+ for just backed 3 years olds with the potential to do well in the Winergy young event horses classes and hopefully to go on and event at a high level. A friend who bred a young horse which went on to be well placed in the 4 year old final at Burghley was offered £30,000 for him as a result . She turned it down!
 
compared to prices in Ireland for top class youngsters, Yes I would pay 6.5K. Decent young horses are thin on the ground over here and hence they are asking and getting huge money for youngsters with potential.

Could you get members of your family to buy a leg?
 
He looks like a really smart horse Kirsty, but personally I could never bring myself to spending that sort of money on any horse. We're all different and perhaps this isn't a lot of money for him - costs not a lot in the grand scheme of things to go and have a look though. You may just fall in love.

I paid a bit less than that (Under £4000 but over £2000) for my 2 1/2 year old she has fab SJing breeding so i'm hoping she'll be a star but if she isn't then what I paid is not a lot in the great scheme of things for a horse to do local shows and a bit of dressage that will hopefully stay with me for the rest of her life. Plus with her breeding I would probably get Back what I paid for her if I sold her as a bood mare.
