Sorry to post one of these but I have no idea what my lorry is worth so here goes:
D reg ford cargo 813. 57,000 miles. 3 horses. Living area, with double bed in luton, tilt cab, repainted totally outside, new matting on ramp, double wooden floor plus rubber matting on top, stockboarding all round to 4', 3 saddle racks in cupboard, plenty of storage space, bridle racks and hooks, gas hob, sink and drainer, fridge. Plated till end March 2008.
oh and reg plate is worth about £250 as it ends in MOM

So any ideas how much I should be looking at putting this for sale for?

personally i absolutely hate ford cargos, but the ones i've seen have been disastorous, one was completely falling apart and rusty, other had fully metal partitions that crashed about when moved, both had really steep ramps which i was scared to go down as i almost slipped over. so i personally didnt get it. but if yours isnt like that at al £4000

not like mine at all I'm afraid, reasonable ramp I've seen a lot steeper ones! telescopic partitions that don't crash around and most importantly the horses travel very well in it

Woah as much as that? I think the clock may well have been once round and is on its second run

though not sure how to check that? Am waiting to see if a couple of companies will do a trade in for a newer box I have my eye on - if not will see mine privately and get the newer box on its own.

Everyone is going to ask how much it weighs as its been a bit high profile lately.

Find the test certificate you got when you brakes were checked at the last plating - it has the weight on there - each axle and combined weight. If you can't find it, it would probably be an idea to get it weighed at a weighbridge as I know I wouldn't personally buy a lorry now without knowing the weight.

only with Pidge tied to it and before it was painted. It has been painted by a friend who paints for a living and he's also painted all the metal under the box like bumper bars, diesel tank etc black so it looks pretty good IMO.

I sold my similar sounding J reg Cargo a few months ago for £5,500. With 12 months MOT and tilt cab, 80,000 miles. (if that's any help!) And it weighed 5.5 tonne unladen, as I saw from the brake test at the MOT centre.

yes thanks, just wanted an idea of how much for trade in or selling privately as I know what I paid for it and what I've have done since in getting it up to scratch.

I'm afraid I'm an ebay virgin as I've never bought or sold anything on there! Was thinking more on horsemart etc and local tack shops if can't get anyone to trade it in or for a reasonable price.

A friend sold one the same age as yours for £6250 a few weeks back. But it was in excellent condition and had been with the same family for 15 years so they had its full history since it had been a horsebox. I would think between £4k and £6.5k depending on condition.

Can you put a photo of it on here to give us an idea what it looks like? How long is it in overall length? only asking cos i am looking for one!!

It all depends what the body is like - is it coachbuilt, is it alloy or wood, is there much rust on the cab. I have sold two cargos on Horsemart - one sold within 24 hours and the other took 4 days. I have just bought an Iveco from Priory Stud (gorgeous, gorgeous coachbuilt body). I have always found the Cargos to have the least steep of all the ramps, obviously have been lucky I suppose, which is probably why my last two sold so quickly. Have a look on Horsemart and see what yours compares with -

This weight thing on the brake test is interesting me.
Mine seems to be in kg. It says GVW 7490kg then GTW10990kg. Then later its got axle 1 3100kg and axle 2 2400kg so does this mean it weighs 5500 kg and how does this transfer to tons?

Sorry to be thick never knew it was on there some of you are bright and thank you. Ignorance is no defence

i bought an F reg cargo 813 in january this year. its done about 183000 i think, similar living to yours and also has a TV/DVD . its stalled for four with telescopic partitions .unladen weight is 6.6 tonne though. it belonged to a friend who was going to advertise it for 6K, i paid 5500 for it and it needs a new floor and doesnt have a tilt cab. its in fair condition to so id say around 6 to 7 for yours
heres mine

These were taken before it was painted.

stilton: I believe its about 20’ long and is 8’ wide
not sure whether its coachbuilt but the body is aluminum.
Carthorse, yes it does add up to 5500kg and 1000kg = 1 ton

unfortunately not, it just means you can only put 900kg in it. You can't go over the 7.5ton on this box even with a HGV licence.

Thanks for the photo. Its a bit bigger than i am looking for, not cos i dont want a big one, just that i have limited access and parking so need something as short as poss.

no probs. Is it for one or two horses that you need a lorry for? It might be worth considering a 3.5ton lorry as they are a lot smaller or one of those van conversions?

Carthorse as your box weighed 5.5t when you took it to be plated it means that you have another 2t for horses etc. Just try to remember what was in it when you plated it (how much fuel) and then you know what extras you need to add on. Check your plate - the red bit of paper ususally attached to your door and it says how much per axle you are allowed, as you can still be illegal even if you are under 7.5t but its spread over the axles incorrectly.

I think GTW is the weight the lorry can take with a trailer attached. GTW = Gross Trans Weight???

Meggotto - you have one heavy lorry, you wouldn't want to put more than one horse in it

This weight thing is frightening. I only carry one in mine but if people are carrying two and some are saying three they must be well over weight.
I know it is being clamped down on but also if you had an accident the insurance company will not pay out if it is shown you are over weight. remember its not just the weight of the horse but equipment as well. I think they say allow 1 ton per horse with equipment.

Also our riding club has informed us that you must have a passport when transporting your horse[I think a photostat is ok]They said that a load of people were done for this recently when a trap was set up outside a show.

fortunately i dont have to take more than one horse at a time as one does affiliated SJ and the other does local stuff. didnt realise it was that heavy until i saw a post a few weeks back about the weight being on the brake test paper so i had a look! wouldnt have bought it if i had known..might have to see what can be altered on it to bring the weight down ,if anything.. people that had it before me reguarly used to carry 4!
