How much would you buy a horse back for?

it depends, do they want to sell, how big are the issues, are they issues that you were able to deal with (but they cannot) or issues that result from new owners experience/inexperience -

but at least 75% -85% if you intend to sell on the horse, or can you sell to someone else and take a commission or just the costs of readvertising

but if the horse is at fault, (or it was obvious when you sold the horse that there would be an issue) maybe a higher % would be fairer

A young girl came to our yard with her new horse, it was freeze marked loss of use, girl did not know what L in the circle ment, so now in contact with owners for full details of injuries or any joint wear.
Owners have offered full monies back or help with any problems.
The horse used to compete and girl was looking for hack only.

How much of original selling price would you offer to buy a horse back thats not getting on with new owner

Depends how long it has been and why the horse is not getting on with new owner - and how much you care about the horse!

If it means you will need to readvertise and resell, incur more livery costs etc I'd probably offer about 90% of purchase price - but only if its basically you doing the new owner a favour rather than wanting the horse back. If the horse has declined in value at all then less than that.

didnt they get the horse vetted as the Vet would have told them what that meant?

OP depends if how long they have had the horse and what the issue is tobehonest. Is the horse resellable?

Sold a cob 6 years ago and paid what I sold him for 6 months later, £3500. Owner texted me and said she had lost her job and needed to sell. Replied immediately saying I'd come and get him. She did ask if I'd like to view him first but I would have had him back with 3 legs.
Got horsebox and picked up a very obese cob, his feathers, tail and mane hacked with scissors and looking so awful, it was almost funny. He had become rude, bargy and refused to have a bridle on after 6 months of pampering, rugging, being fed treats and doing very little work.
The dear boy was very happy to get home and I decided he'd never go anywhere again. The woman has always kept in touch and visits with a bag full of goodies. Which generally get shared out after she's gone.:D

A friend of mine sold her eventer for 14k used the money to put an arena down then bought the horse back for 1k about a year later as 2nd set of owners couldnt manage him, he came back a lil nuttier than he went but he has a home for life now

Ditto the "it depends", can you afford to take it back, why are they returning - any issues you need to sort out etc
I sold my mare, new owners after 6 months had "taught" her to rear & spin rather than go riding. Bought her back for half the price - did not really want her back, but they had given her the "dangerous" label & I was worried about where she would end up.
I would not give more than that back as I was left with a horse that I could not honestly sell on again & had to pay livery for the rest of her life. (luckily have 2 sharers now that cover her costs) & no sign of the dangerous behaviour!
