How much would you charge for a full, full, all inclusive price for grass livery, per week?

To include:

 All hard feed (pony nuts and hi fi/hi fi and vit supplement in summer)
 All hay (obviously reduced in summer)
 Checking once a day/bring in and groom once a week
 Rug changes/fly spray application
 Bringing in for farrier
 Worming
 Farrier (fronts and trim behind @£40 every 6 weeks)

We are based in Surrey (2 mins from M25/35 mins central London) , if that helps.

I am in a bit of a random situation with one of my liveries so just trying to work out the best price for all of the above – its not something I usually offer.

Well I pay £7 a week for my grazing so if you add £7 a week for shoeing and trims, say £10 a week for feed, plus the extras I think you would be talking at least £30 a week.

Amymay, they pay £18.50 per week for grazing as it is...which is cheap for grass livery in Surrey!!! :)

To give you all an idea of prices, the yard opposite mine is PART livery, no school, less grazing, and charge £90 per week.

I would charge £20 per week, I think.

What !!! If it's £20 a week when can my horses move in?!

I would say - £80pcm for grass, £40 pcm for daily checks/bring in, £29pcm for the farrier, an equest worming year pack costs about £55 so £5pcm, hay £22 pcm (based on £10pw for 6 months of year), basic feed at £5pw £22 pcm.

Total
£198 pcm

Lets see:

farrier £7 a week
wormers £1.25
Feed approx £10
Fly spray? £0.30
Bring in and groom, about 1hr, so £6
1 check a day, faffing about would be 1/4hr so £10 a week?
hay, maybe 2 bales a week, so £5?
basic grass livery, ie rent of grazing £10

That would make it about £50 a week - you are not a charity

I am not far from you and grass livery is as rare as rocking horse poo round here - do you have any vacancies???

In answer to your question I would say that field rent alone round here is a minimum of £100 -£150 a month with serviced grass livery £150 -180 a month - and that is without a farrier! So an absolute minimum of £150 month would be pretty good all in.

Bloody hell, can i move my horses to where its that cheap please???!!!!

I pay £179.50 a month at the moment for grass livery, that includes hay and checking once a day. Trimming feet is £26 every 6 weeks on top of that, and feed is also not included.

I am hopefully about to move yards where im going to be paying £100 a month for the above, they do an option which includes feed and changing rugs which is £180 a month. Mine dosent wear rugs though and he is only fed once or twice a week when i catch him in, so il be providing the feed myself.

I would say around £250 a month?

Amymay we probably are all bonkers but they are realistic surrey prices. I don't know anyone who pays less than £100 p/m and that is for unservice grass livery with no electricity and minimal hard standing. Ridiculous I agree but that is the market - there is just no land round here it all has bl**dy houses on it! I know because I am looking!

:eek::eek::eek:

You must all be bonkers:p

But at £20 a week the OP would be giving FREE grass and care to this horse. The £20 a week would barely cover hay/feed/farrier/wormer

ETA where I am (expensive commuter belt) it is £17.50 a week basic grass / unsupervised. You then pay for haylage through the winter at £30-60pcm depending on weather and how much needs to be put out. If you want your horse fed for you it is £3 a day. And obviously thatt doesn't account for farrier and worming costs.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. Livery £20 per week. Hay £8-9 per week. Wormer, farrier all chargeable. Bring in and out £3.00 a time. Check it daily (takes two mins). Feed, I suppose chuck another £2.00 a week in.

So total cost per week circa £30-35. With extra's as neccassary billed monthly.

Pooor AM - we are all mad and need to move where you live!!

Misst - I will have 1 vacancy as of May 1st, have 9 acre field with max. 4 horses in it, they come off in October, it gets rested and harrowed over the winter, and go into 2 smaller fields with extra hay etc...worked this winter and eveyone happy so its up to you? I have a couple of liveries who are on this forum (!!!) so I can give you references etc.

I would say £150 minimum as its an expensive area and grass livery places are few and far between. Also its not just about the cost of providing the necessary items for the horses care it gives the owner total freedom in that they don't have to come up everyday and that is priceless in my book.

I'm in a southern county and grass livery is very rare here aswell. I only charge one girl £60 per month but thats because she helps out with mine.

In South Bucks in wouldn't expect to pay less than £15 per week just for grazing and water (nothing else). So with everthing else that's offered, I would say at least £40 pw - probably a little more.

Not poor AM at all. I'm just staggared, actually, at the amount you guys have to pay just for grass livery - and wonder how you all afford non grass livery.

To be honest, RR, sounds like money for old rope to me.....

I dont/cant, which is why I work F/T, and have a yard to deal with on top!!!!

I called around on Weds for someone, and the local “60 horses in yard too small for them with grazing at a minimum” DIY yard was £43 per week, for a stable, and a field!

Im on full grass livery -

I get: Rugs on Rugs off, All the feed Hay Water, the horses feet picked out etc, when the farrier comes shes there to stand with them if i cant make it also with the vet.

Fly spray - sweet itch lotion applied twice a day, Sweet itch rug put on etc, The field owner also gets all the wormers etc.

I get everything done for me etc, and If I want a lesson with the field owners son, then I dont have to pay anything, there just really really nice people.

I pay £30 a week, for all that. Apart from as Gypsy has trimms the farrier charges £20, he doesnt have a call out charge so he comes out on a monthly basis to check all the horses if they dont need doing he doesnt charge anything. Wormers are £8 but the field owner does all the worming programme and worms them for us, and I buy the fly spray/sweet itch lotion that she also applys.

The horses get checked on all day. Mainly Morning Lunch and Dinner and then before the FO goes to bed at night. But the FO lives on site.

But were just lucky to have our horses where we do xx

I thought grass livery is predominantly DIY really. I have had my horses on grass livery for past 5 years and to be honest I paid as little as £40 per month (but the field was not safe, owners did not take care of fencing etc so we swiftly moved) and at the moment I am paying £60 per month. Saying that I buy my own hay, feed etc.
I work 7 days a week (5 full time and 2 part time-at the moment, but not forever) but still find time to go up and check my horses and ride every day.
I know they are bonkers in Surrey, I have few horsey friends living there and I was always shocked by how much more they are paying out. and they are paying through their nose just because the yard owners getaway with it. It is not just grass liveries that get taken for a ride though. My friend had her horse in one of the best yards in the area on full livery paying well over £500 per month and she found out (because they took in too many horses), the poor horse was chucked out from 3pm till 7am into a disgusting boggy field with no grass, with no hay (despite the owner claiming he was hayed) and the horses stable she was paying for was used for another horse to keep in!!! It was hardly surprising the poor old horse with tendon problems was not happy at all surving in so called 5* livery yard in cold, wet winter in bog more than 12hrs every day. Neither was my friend and she very quickly moved.

We are not money grabbing – as a Surrey Y/O, I do it to keep my horses, not to earn a living, and therefore everything is done at a minimum and for the benefit of my liveries.

FYI, apparently small bale hay has just gone up to £9 a bale….yes £9!!!! Everything is extortionate…so therefore we have to charge – and it is even expensive for the minimum cost!

I have my lad in similar situation as I 'left' him at current yard when I moved as he is retired and as difficult to find field friends for and where he was happy it made sense to leave him there. I pay £110 a month then I pay wormers and farrier trims on top as required.

The £110 includes daily check/re rug/hay etc in winter, and twice daily checks in summer. Also handling as required for farrier. Basically he is effectively on retirement livery and what I pay is pretty standard for area. I think at one point I looked round and lowest was £100 per month.

where I used to keep my horse they charged £35 a week for grass livery which included all hard feed, hay and daily checks. It didn't include worming, farrier or anything else though although it would include bringing in for the farrier or vet etc.

Misst, as one of R2R's grass liveries I can wholeheartedly vouch for how lovely the place is and what great value for money it is/bargain!!! Having just moved from DIY to grass livery, I struggled to actually find anywhere around here that did grass livery and had decent grazing, without having too many horses on too little grass.

in midlands we pay £22 stable and field - if want unlimited straw its £3 more a week - for those who dont want field its £15 per week. Inc. tack room, indoor school use, xc course, ind grazing, can put your own field shelter up if want to. feed area, rug room and caravan for liveries. We buy hay off farmer. We dont have full grass livery - only if you on holiday but feeding is £1 a day poo picking £1 a day (supply own feed) bringing in farrier £1

so glad dont live down south!!!

I must be mad! I have a friend's old pony on retirement livery with me. She is stabled during the worst of the winter with ad-lib hay, pony nuts and carrots morning and night, rugs on if necessary and groomed and I charge £30 a month but the owner does pay for the farrier, dentist and worming on top of that.
