Hack ...

Can anyone give me some idea of what I can expect to pay for someone to hack my pony for anywhere between 45-60 minutes. We have amazing hacking and said pony (14.2hh) is very well behaved, not a dobbin either, really good to hack. Based in South East on Oxon/ Berks border.

To keep her ticking over, once or twice a twice on an ad hoc possibly regular basis. No stable duties involved.

4 years ago I was paying £30 a time, total an hour including her time in tacking up and chucking out after, as i left the Fuzzy in for her. I was fortunate not to be charged more, this is because I was close to a yard she was doing more at after.

Are you having the animal ready so the hour is just riding, or will they have to spend time tacking up, brushing or and rugging after?

Will the horse be clean and tacked up and finished off after?

If yes, you should find someone competent for a well behaved horse for £20. If they are expected to educate, crash test dummy or scub mud/sweat then more

I pay £30 for someone to ride / school my horse, which in winter is hacking as I don’t have a school. She’s an amazing rider and teaches as well. I think she charges the same whatever she does - breaking, schooling, teaching, exercise etc.

30-35 minimum. Especially as the cost of living and fuel is likely to rise over the next 12 months and I expect freelancers will have to put their prices up accordingly.

I pay 30 for 2 hours, horse is tacked up for rider and u pay for full 2 hours even if only ride for 1.5. Rider untacks and washes off if we have been out less than 2 hours. If we went out for 1 hour it would be £20 and I would tack and untack

I pay £20 for my lovely instructor to hack my boy once a week. He is a special case though - in rehab for post n&f surgery for PSD, and also an absolute live wire to hack - it's like sitting on a ticking time bomb, you never know what he's gonna spook at next! She takes him out for approx 40 minutes, I tack him up ready for her and she stays after to untack and help with rehab exercises (tail pulls, belly lifts). She is such a lifesaver for me I don't know what I'd do without her!
