Transport (and a driver) for 2 16hh horses to and from a local show 4 miles away?

I would imaging it will be around £100. It matters little if it's just down the road, they will probably charge waiting time. Also there may be a minimum rental of a day. Take a look at this site & this is self drive:-

It depends on if you want the driver to wait for you. The local horse transport company would charge £50 - 65 for the journey and £12.50 per hour waiting time here. I used them a few times but it was getting so expensive. Luckily from word of mouth I found a nice old chap with a trailer and an old lorry who takes me to places now. He charged £60 for a whole day at a show with 2 horses and 25 miles. So it all depends on if you go for the local guys or the horse transport companies in the yellow pages.

Well, you would be hiring a lorry and a driver for best part of a day Neither would be cheap . You could hire a small box for about £100 a day.

At 4 miless, I'd hack there and back,if road were reasonable.

Toputin in protportion, if you called a taxi cab company to come out to you pick you up and take you there, it would be £20 and that woud be without waiting time. And another £20 to bring you home.

I'm doing similar in September, the main roads are too busy to hack. Transport is £90 plus £10 an hour waiting.

I am intending to hack but I was concerned about my horse's fitness. She is in good condition and ridden 6 days a week (typically one lungeing sesh for 30 mins, 2x schooling for about an hour, 1x jumping for 45 mins-an hour and 2 1hr 30min hacks)

Do you think she'll be fit enough to hack there, do a few classes and hack back?

Its quite hilly but she has a very long stride so covers a lot of ground without much effort.

sounds like she's pretty fit and will be fine to hack

especially as the classes will be spread out through the day. you can always wait a bit longer after the last class if you feel she needs some recovery time

I used to hack my boy to all comps within a 6 mile radius, including hunter trials where Id go do the open and the pairs before hacking home! He was pretty damn fit mind you

Sounds like your mare is fit enough. Do you know if you can get access to water when you're there? I would give yourself plenty of time and just take it easy on the way there and back and I would imagine she will cope fine.
