How much would you expect to pay?

Yes another one of these, I’m not looking seriously, more window shopping to give me an idea of where my budget needs to be!
Basics:
MUST be 16hh plus with a bit of substance able to carry weight (14st) nothing pure TB.
Age: anywhere between 3-10.
Must just be a nice person and generally sensible, don’t mind green, just not nuts. Don’t even mind unbacked but would pref backed!
I would also prefer a mare but beggars can’t be choosers!
I’m not looking for a world beater & don’t have huge competitive aspirations but it would be nice to eventually be able to unaff BE90, some pleasure rides, maybe some hunting.
Ironically, I sold this, my dream horse, to the perfect home two years ago and it’s the biggest regret of my life but I had to at the time. I got £4K for her which I thought was great at the time, but looking now I feel like I need £7k+ for something even vaguely similar!
 
That’s a how long is a piece of string question tbh because most horses can do a BE90 but depends if you want quality. You can pick up something unbacked that fits the above “potential” for a grand or so, because with correct training even a total crock has that potential.
 
As soon as you look for something that has some hunting background prices soar. Hunters that stay sound really hold thier value!
 
That is a similar criteria to annagain's , think thats the right one, except she cannot have a mare, she has looked at numerous and been very disappointed by most with a budget of around 7k , finding a decent type that is comfortably up to 14stone is never easy, you may find a big cobby type but if you want something with any quality I suspect you will either have to buy very green/ unbroken or have up to 10k available and to be honest producing something like that properly would cost a fair bit so the seller deserves a reasonable return.
 
Yes I’m aware it costs to produce but I’m happy with something green, just backed, just seems impossible To find something “ average” I wasn’t expecting to have hunted, but something I would like to do. Hopefully by the time I’ve saved for a 10k horse prices will have dropped off! I put that much on the deposit for my house!

I am not sure many are average now, most are either not quite good enough, already started but bred to be above average or of the cob variety, finding the old fashioned in between type in any height is not as easy as it used to be, almost every good breeder is trying to breed the next Olympic horse, anything average is still going to cost the same to get to the stage where they can properly assess what they can sell them on as so most real bargains will be that for a reason, it may be a genuine reason but you still have the hard job of finding them.
 
it also depends on the area you are in. i am currently trying to find a 15 to 15.2 sensible horse for a friend who is petite so doesnt need a weightcarrier and she wants to do general riding club comps and hack out safely alone or with company and ideally within 2 and a half hours from us. there seems to be this sort of horse in yorkshire and the south west which would be a huge journey especially as so many horse are not as advertised and she would want to try herself first and then get her trainer to go for the 2nd visit. her budget is up to £6000 and the few we have found have been snapped up before we can even get there for the first visit....
 
A friend has something that fits the criteria but that is fourteen and she is asking £5K so I would have thought something in a more desired age bracket would be more
 
I got my lovely mare who is a 16.3HH Irish Sports and can do all of that....she is 12 but very low mileage and she was within your budget....here we are

Yes - I'm very picky, work full time and have my old boy to look after in DIY (so have to be there and back between turning out and getting in) as well as trying to do at least one day a weekend looking after my 98 yr old gran for my mum to have a break so my search is very slow. So far I've found one that I liked but I fell off him (not his fault) got concussion and by the time I was in a position to make contact again (only the following day) he'd sold - seller assumed I wouldn't want him or would have waited for me. He was £8k and I'd have had to pay that as there were people queuing up for him. He was 6 and had done a bit but not loads.

I have since found one I really, really want. I've not said anything about him on here yet for a few reasons - mainly as I don't want to tempt fate as, in true me style, it's very complicated. He ticks about 2 of my 10 boxes (he's only rising 6, green as grass in the sense he's done nothing - he's only been on a trailer once in his life - but has a very old head on young shoulders) but I love him! Unfortunately so does his owner and she's not quite ready to sell him yet. To be fair to her, she's never advertised him and I always knew the situation. I only went to see him to stop the mutual friend who put us in touch nagging me! We haven't discussed a price yet but he would be much cheaper.

From what I've seen, while budget helps, I've seen some at 7k and some at 3k and there's very little difference between them. The only other one who came close was £3,750.

Have you tried Lynn Robertson in Soham? I think she may be close enough and would probably have the sort you’re looking for
 
I have one who ticks all your boxes - he's 16.3hh 8 yr old quality ID - I shall be selling him at some point this year and he'll be around 7.5k when I do.

Wait until December when I’ll be looking properly ?

As far as area/ distance goes I’m not fussed so long as the horse actually ticks most of all of the boxes, I know there’s a few dealers about with that sort but they seem to be snapped up very quickly before even videos are posted. I’m just kicking myself for selling my mare instead of loaning her out GAH!

music to my ears, I don’t know much about that sort of thing but if prices start coming down, in the next year or so I’d be happy!

I imagine prices are going to absolutely crash if we end up in a global recession. For anyone thinking about buying, I'd hold off 3 months and the market should look very different!
