how much would you insure this horse for??

I have my horse insured but im not sure if i have him insured for the correct amount.
He's a 16.1 3/4 TB (not sure on other quarter!). He's very handsome (i know im biased but he is actually a handsome fella) dark bay. He's 15 years old and has no vices at all. Is very good for farrier, to catch and is very nice natured and good to do. I don't do much schooling but when i do he is very well behaved (dont do anything fancy though!). I dont jump him but he is capable. His main plus is hacking - he is very good on his own and in company and he will go past ANY types of traffic (he's never spooked at any vehicles in my 8 1/2 years of owning him). He's as bomb proof as a horse can be! He doesnt buck/rear.
He has had a ligament injury which cleared up and he has been sound ever since (been sound one year now and is trotting/cantering). What sort of price would he be worth in todays market? Im not selling him (would never part with him) but just need to know for insurance purposes. Horse prices are mad these days!
 
The more you insure him for the higher the premium so I would insure him for a lowish amount. You will still get the same vets fee limits etc.
Not sure at what age insurers class horses veterans but with him being 15 some insurers may limit your policy anyway.
 
thank you izt! he is safe, altho dont get me wrong, he can have his moments here and there so i wouldnt say he's a novice ride for that reason. he would need someone with a bit of experience. i have him valued at £1500 so would you say leave him at that?
 
Yes I think you are about right at 1.5k

Any more and as someone else said you will just be boosting the premium.

I was thinking of reducing Merlins (currently 4k purchase price) to reduce the premium.... if they wont pay out because of his arthritis then may as well as he is obviously not worth 4k now :-(
