For a 17hh 10 year old x breed, been out of work for approximately 2 years not done much before then. BUT, is in desperate need of weight, routine care, feet, teeth etc doing ?

im trying to be diplomatic about a situation on my yard, said person has 5 horses all in good condition except the above, she is a lovely mare very friendly. I'm a bit

as to why she has been left to get in the state she is in. Although im guessing the lady in question is over horsed the other horses are 16hh.

Basically i will make an offer for her, possible one to loan if she won't sell and ultimately phone horse trust if she refuses the offers.

her horses winter out and i doubt the mare could take it.

500? Why has she not sold her then??

she has had the mare for 4 years, i do not have a clue why she hasn't been sold on really, the other 4 horses are well kept, they come in and have feeds if they drop a bit of weight or are turned out in a field with more grass. but this mare is left in the same field day in day out.

Stop it- you are making me want to buy her and i already have 3. We have a person on our yard - has had a horse for 8 years - she is terrified of it and wont do more than a walk with it in the indoor school. They wont sell it because they do not want to see anyone else get on better with it than them.

And all i can say is poor poor horse

yes you see gingerwitch i think it that is it, i think she is scared of her.

i will try and convince her to sell/loan if not i will have to report her. i can't see a horse like that

Wont your yard owner step in? I know it is often difficult as they dont want to upset an owner with 5 horses but at our place if a horse was not being treated correcly the yard owner would have a word.

YO response is it's not her horse why should she interfere.
i have pointed out that if anyone one did come they may well have words with her to about letting a horse get that bad.

*** trundles off to bang head off wall some more***

I got a 16.2hh dutch warblood(leo) in January and he totally lost me my confidence as bronked me off trampled on me and i cracked my tail bone.

i put him away to be schooled and he was fine. But i rode him and felt so nervous.
I absolutely adored him loved him to bits but i knew that me and him did not have a future together and he was better than to be just left.

so traded him for hari who i have now

There is nothing wrong with not getting on with a horse - it does not mean you are a bad rider it just means you did not get on. Face it we spend a lot more time with our horses than our "men" not being sexist here so substitute for partner. I have had several long term boyfriends and yes i loved all of them BUT we just did not get on.

So they left me or vice a versa - problem for us owners our horses cant sit us down over a cup of tea and say "well i wish you could sell me because you want this and i want that......."

So why do we assume that we will always "click" with whatever we buy ? it is un realistic.

It is such a shame for that poor mare. I hope you can help her. I am shocked at the yard owner!

I know our YO would throw a fit if a horse on her yard was treated badly. Being paranoid, because we live in Cumbria and the weather can be terrible, I over rugged Cappy one night. Next morning I got a terrible telling off, she said "I never want see that again!"

YO has a duty of care, I'd remind them of that and also ring the relevants if you feel the situation so warrants it.

I don't give a [****] if someone has a horse, doesn't ride it and doesn't bother with it, so long as its health and welfare isn't compromised.

Too many people throw a hissy fit about horses not being ridden or fussed with but the reality is they really don't care.
