I was wondering if anyone has had a total re-flock done (i.e take out all old flocking and put back in new), and how much they paid for it to be done? I have just had an albion jump saddle that was re-flocked and the price they charged me seems extortionate!!!

I had my dressage saddle completely reflocked and it was between £50 and £60 iirc.

So go on, how much?!

Yikes! I had a new tree put in my saddle and paid about that then, rather a lot more work so I didn't mind too much!

What did they flock it with? Wool from endangered breeds?

Or perhaps I was just lucky

Must have been from a woolley mammoth or something! I just rang another saddler who quoted me £80. Right, I will be returning to the shop to have a quiet word with them about ripping people off! When I questioned it they talked to me like I was think explaining that its a very difficult and big job blah blah blah...aaargh!

I paid £90 for a total re-flock, and this included 3 visits, 1 to assess, one to return the saddle and check fit, then another 3 months later to check how it had settled.

Mine has just been done (by very expensive local saddlers)...completely reflocked plus saddler coming out to me twice to check it and make minor alterations came to £170.

My saddle's flocking has just been altered (more put in I think), and this, plus call out charge, and saddler watching horse ridden in saddle came to £40!

I questioned the fee today, and they said that £25 was a consultation fee (for like 2 mins, he drew a template thing on a bit of paper, and horse was terrified of saddler for some reason so was stood shaking like a leaf with a hunched back, bless him) so I can't think i got my £25 worth! They took saddle away, a different person reflocked it, i went to shop to collect it, no one has checked the fit on the horse or anything. The rest was because its 'a very big job' and i quote 'well it is expensive to run a business in hertfordshire, far more so than hampshire (where i am from and home saddler is based)...' - WHAT?! their rent for the premesis has nothing to do with me! So I wangled as part of my consultation fee that someone needs to come and at least check the saddle on the horse, and told them I wouldnt be using their business again. To make it more frustrating, they are based on the same site as my yard so they don't even have to go anywhere!
