Hi
The horse I currently ride is going up for sale and I want to buy her. Trouble is she is far too much much for me to be able to afford. She is a 15.2hh dutch warmblood 8 yr old mare. Broken as a 7 yr old (at beg of last year) as owner bought her as a 5 year old unbroken only to find out she was in foal! She hacks out alone and in company. Is very green in the school and needs alot of work but I think she will make a super dressage horse as her paces are to die for and she is very willing to learn!
So the question is how much would you pay for her? I know the market isn't good at the mo but the owner is asking £5000. I think this is rather alot but I could be wrong. She has said i could have her for £4000 but I still can't afford anywhere near this. So opinions please! Thank you for reading! :D

Does she jump? Been out anywhere etc? I saw a gorgeous 10yr 17hh boy for sale at a show today who has dressaged upto medium, getting double clears foxhunter with scope and evented etc. He was up for £7k so since that moment I think you can get a lot of horse for your money in the current market!! So £5k does sound quite steep unless she has a lot of potential :)

If he is that green then id say no more than £3k, unless they are very well bred with papers and all tack, then £4k would be more reasonable.
i know you really like this horse but id go and view a few, you may find something that you really like for a lot less.

I bought a lovely ISHxWB aged 4, good breeding and papers, and 16.2 for £3k. Again had lovely paces and a huge jump, nice attitude, but needed a lot of work. I would expect to pay less for something older that hadn't done anything (by older I mean 7/8 not 3/4).

I'd be tempted to let her put it up for sale - tell her you would give £3k perhaps, and a good home, then see how it goes. Do you have any idea what she paid?
