Hi

how much would you pay for this horse???

* 15.2 light to middleweight irish type horse. (not sure on exact breeding).
* Good confirmation
* 8 years old
* no illnesses or lumps and bumps.

However!

* Hacking - very spooky (doesnt do anything nasty, just spooky and not listen
* Schooling - Can do it, very green
* Sharp horse, but very intelligent
* bucked owner off and has bolted with owner.
* can be scared of his own tail flapping! e.t.c.
* has been to a local show and done well, but was over yr ago. No competition history.

This horse has scared its owner and now stopped riding. Ive started riding him. He is quick to learn and hasnt done anything nasty to me. I got owner to check teeth, saddle fits fine and my back lady sorted him out.

I am not phased by any of the above as I see true potential in this horse and enjoy riding him. Just wondered in his current state what would you pay for a horse for like this with these quirks?

Thanks

Personally, you'd have to pay me to take him

If you are looking to buy him and really like him, I'd offer £500. It sounds as if you can turn him round and make a nice little horse out of him. But please make sure you don't do all the work and then she goes and sells him to someone else!

Have looked on project horses, but it is a very random site! Doesnt give a true insight.

Yes the horse can be a lovely horse and agree I dont want to do all the work for him to be sold on. He isnt actually on open market and dont think they intend to sell, but know they would sell to me. (people are fickle, so hence my question)

What price for horse, tack, rugs? Would £1500 be fair? or too much? too little? Think they paid about 5k for him about 18months ago!

TBH debating if I want the expense and cold winter mornings or owning again. Sold my show pony last year and love having spare time, but this horse has potential.

Argh!!! Horses! I wish my mother never took me to have lessons nearly 30 yrs ago!!! Should of done ballet!

I had to do ballet as I had flat feet - hated it, all girly and pink. Kept whinging that I wanted riding lessons like my big sister!

Ditto to above post!

However....sounds very similar to one of my horses, all same problems [plus a rearer too!lol] but I loved her and saw potential and she turned out to be the best horse I've known and all vices gone

Well worth it. Overpriced at 1500 for what I bought at the time, yes, but turned out worth triple that price 6 months on

Not that I could ever sell....still got her lol

If I was buying him, I wouldnt expect to pay more than £1,000 pounds, especially in the current market. Wouldnt be put of him though, if you can turn him round, you could have a bargain!

Thanks Tamba, thats what I am thinking. There is nothing wrong with him, he just needs a confident rider.

Still got to pay full livery! Got to get a lodger to help cover livery!

Nothing! you could not pay me to have a horse like that, horses are just too expensive, take up too much time to have a bad one

It costs the same to look after a good horse as a bad one

Think it's a bit extreme to label this a 'bad' one....project or prospect yes, but not bad lol.
