How much would you pay someone to do your poo picking?

Depends on the person. I'd pay a decent job rate for someone I trusted to do a good job or pay per flat barrow for someone likely to not clear the place properly otherwise.
If there isn't any poo picking in between I'd probably pay a couple of times a week unless they preferred one day, otherwise it can be a long slog.

So some of you may remember the poo crisis thread that I posted up a few months ago. Essentially no poo picking gets done by my DIY liveries even though it is a requirement. It's a constant nag to get them to do it and as I have a busy full time job I am thinking of ceasing to offer DIY livery and only offer part, (stable, grazing, arena, field poo picking). I'm just wondering by how much to raise the rent (currently £25). I'd get a member of my staff to do it, whom I usually charge £10 per hour.

Essentially I need to feel confident that my fields are being well looked after and are top quality without having to micro manage individuals who don't really care.

Moobucket when I have poo picked for my one horse once a week it has taken approx 40 minutes. If your livery was to include poo picking I think you should put it up to 32 pounds per week at least. Their choice - pick it or pay it :)

What about getting a local teen or something to do it? A person I used to ride for used to pay her neighbours son who was 15 about £5 an hour to do it.

I'd avoid paying by the hour. A decent worker and it won't be worth the money, someone lazy will earn more. I always do job or breakdown of the job with something like this.

I do pay someone... At first it was £40 a month/ £10 a week cash in hand. Person didn't have enough time so now I pay a student... £8 an hour. He is quicker than she was so it's costing less.... He had suggested he do it for £6 an hour as he does mucking out for a yard at that, but he is extra reliable and often helps with other stuff so I suggested £8. 2 horses, out 24/7 ... Usually 4 barrows a week worth of droppings. Average of about £32 a month.

This compares to the yard charge of £80 a month/ £20 a week as they staff are busy and this would take premium time they could spend schooling.

Wow my horses must poo for England! Can't believe how little some of yours seem to go - I have two cobs and a pony live out. 24/7 = 3 barrows in 24 hours! Would love to pay someone to do it for me. I'm fretting now about how much there will be to pick up when snow goes and I resume poo picking.

Depends on size of barrow! My mare fills 2 big barrows a week when she is out 24/7. Work long hours during week so poo pick one weekend day

At that price you will end up with little kids doing it. No hard working adult would come out to poo pick for a couple of quid!

Oh sorry I thought you meant what would you pay yard staff to do it as an extra job. I was thinking it only takes half an hour or so to do four or five barrows so £/hour thats a good deal. But then I suppose it depends on how big your field is how far away the muck heap is how big your barrow is etc

I would make them pay £30 pw (not sure how many you have but that way if theres just two it would only be £10 a week, a reasonable amount. But if you have say 6, it would be £30 a week - a little more worth it for the person poopicking!)

Also, I think its very good of you to be so concerned about poo-picking, and they should respect that and bl**dy get on with it!!

I used to pay a pound a day per horse for mine to be poo picked they are on restricted grazing so it takes less than 20 minutes for all four in one barrow load of poo so that works out at about 12 pounds per hour they did them every day though

I pay a 15 yr old boy £5 an hour to do mine. It takes him 5-6 hours to clear my fields with 3 horses living out 24/7 and a bit of a hike to the muck heap. I have health issues so can't do it myself so worth every penny. I sometimes give him a bit extra if the weather is awful as he is extremely reliable.
