Hello all,
Im always being asked at the yard im at if i will bring horses in or put them out, so ive said im going to start charging people, may seem harsh but we all have to make money, so i was wondering what you would pay for somebody to do yours? its not a full livery yard DIY any help on chages would be great.
1....Bringing horse into stable taking rug off.
2....Rugging up horse and putting into feild.
3....Mucking out stable.

What would you pay??? And do you think it will work?

Our YO charges the DIYs £2.50 for each turn-out or bring-in. (I think that would include rug changes)

£3 per stable muck out if they're on woodpellets
£4 per stable muck out on any other type of bedding as it takes longer

We get charged

50p for turn out/bring in
£1.50 for a rug change, so £2.00 to bring in and change rug, same for rugging up and turning out.
I think its £4 a day to muck out

We pay £1 a day to get him turned in/out
Dont need rug changes but Id pay if needed them.

The livery yard is DIY aswell.

It depends what you want to do - do you want people to stop asking or do you want to make money?

My last yard charged £1 per bring in + 50p per rug change. Current yard charges £1.

I suppose it also depends how far away the fields are from the stables - if you have to trudge down a long muddy track to the yard turning out/bringing in will take you a lot longer (and therefore command a higher feed) than if the field gate comes straight onto the yard.

Bear in mind that these would likely be taxable earnings if you have another job, might not be worth the admin unless you have a lot of horses to do. Plus, even if you cheat on the taxes, you might need insurance. E.g. what happens if a horse bolts through a yard fence onto a road as you are bringing it in and then you get sued by
- YO for fence
- drivers for whiplash/new cars
- horse owner for new horse?

:) Mmmm Some great feedback there, and i do realize there will be things to consider before doing so.
I think i was hopeing to charge roughly what most of you have said, so i quite happy about that.
Thank you to all who commented:)
