Someone on the same yard so already there.....

Turnout with rug change
Skip out and tidy up (deep littered in the week)
Water
Prep hay (steam) and put in stable
Bring in


Ready for owner to come down change rug, groom, ride, feed etc...

And all of the above but finish off for the night so feet, rug, feed.

It depends on how long it would take, are the fields close and is horse good to do or a PITA? I have never steamed hay so don't know how much of a faff that is, but at a rough guess those jobs would take 20-30mins so about £5 if I was doing it regularly and horse was good. If it was a one off favour I wouldn't charge. Then with the added jobs, well they take all of 5 mins so an extra pound or two (assuming you're not including full groom and riding).

This will be either a three day a week or a five day a week arrangement, to steam hay involves shoving it in the bin and leaving it for 40 mins while other jobs are done, horse is not a PITA, fields very close - winter grazing furthest away at about an 80 metre walk....

No grooming or riding involved in either scenario.
 
£6 / £8 or £8 / £10, depending on area, local costs etc. Five or seven day part livery might even work out cheaper if you are on a yard that does it; mine is only £9 per day and that includes rent, feed, hay and bedding.

Unfortunately the yard doesn't provide services so this would be on top of livery costs :eek:, the yard is perfect in every way so moving isn't really an option considering the alternatives :eek::(
 
It's not a full muck out though, it's a skip out which is just take out the poo and tidy the bed that's a 5-10 min job maximum. A full muck out I would ask between 3-5 depending on how messy horse is etc. (I have some that I can do a full muck out in 5 mins, some that take 20 mins! That's a proper full muck out on straw, banks and everything.)

Looks like a max of 45mins work a day, I'd charge about £7 a day.
 
At mine it would be £9 for the day including a full muckout but not steaming the hay. This would also include making up feeds (owner wouldn't need to come at all unless they are riding etc). Maybe a bit less for just the skip out and no making up feeds.
 
What type of steamer is it ? if its a haygain will you fill the dalek yourself and net the hay? and will it be kept somewhere warm.... i love my steamer but in the winter it is a bit of a pain bringing it home and into the house every night - its worth it dont get me wrong... but it is a faff for someone doing it part of the daily services.... i also worry about skip off - one persons skip off is someone elses proper muck out.

For me i would only have a service like this if i knew i could get to the yard and take over at any point if i needed too.
 
I was charged £5 a day for a full livery day which included turn out, rug change, hays, feed, muck out, bring in,hooves picked out and feeding at night. The yard previous to that one it was £10 a day which I felt was too expensive
 
My livery yard it's charged per job so you can taylor your needs on a daily basis.

£1.50 per turnout/bring in
50p to hose legs and pick out feet
£3 for a skip out
£5 for muck out
50p for a rug change
50p to hang hay or put feed in
£1 to fill nets (per net!)
50p to fill water buckets
£5 to hold horse for vet/farrier
£10 for horse to be ridden for 40mins in the indoor school
£3.50 for 20 mins on the horse walker

This is on top of normal livery fees which are £26.50 a week these charges are doubled if at a weekend and you still get charged if canceled without 24hrs notice.

they obviously dont like filling haynets but like to chat up the vet/farrier;)

its the same at our yard but they do full livery for £10 perday.

my prices vary depending on where and who it is
 
Thanks guys, very helpful. I would LIKE to pay 8 pounds a day but 10 seems much more substantial, I guess I have to put the offer to her.....
 
Billy - you need to think this through... will you want her all year round or just when you are at work? - and will she expect to be paid for bank holidays but not do them or will you pay double time on a bank holiday???

Sorry to raise these questions but its not a diy yard with services that you can switch on and off - which is what would probably be the best for you... and she may start to count the money as "hers" before she gets it if your not very clear on when you will need her - and it would be a nightmare if you got wires crossed on this one.

Thanks CW, I will need to have a talk with her. It is likely to be four days a week but only during term time, it will mean I can focus on my new job without the constant worry of getting away as she will be tucked up in bed. I will still go every night and ride/feed all but I often get very distracted by about 3pm at work when I am desperately thinking about how to get away so I can get everything done and then continue the work that I have to do at home.

Oh and we aren't so luckily to have a haygain unfortunately we use a bin and steamer :( but if YO buys the new lad then I may try and persuade her to go halves with me as he will need his hay steamed forever more :) sneaky....

I know for 6 months of the year - yes you need a hand - but if you get organised you should be able to sort the majority out what ever time you get to the yard... its just the catch in or maybe a field check when its nice... thay would get you down to a tenner a week maybe ???

I just think that £40 or £50 on top of what your alreadys spending is going to be a bit.... well a bit much, without the back up of it being a livery yard.

I know, it is going to work out expensive.... To be honest it is the only way I can think to take the pressure off me, I would still go up every night without fail but it's the 'what if the others have been brought in?' 'what if an emergency meeting is called at work?' situations that I want to remove the pressure from. I have always been like this, come the afternoon I am fidgety and frustrated and I wondered how I can reduce this. I know I have posted about this before so sorry to bore anyone :)

If I pay £10 a day it would be another £150 on top of what I am paying as I already pay £50 a month for morning turnout. I am turning into a full livery and I never wanted to :( *no offence I just always wanted to be a DIY*

I have worked out that for this service 5 days a week Plus regular livery cost, hay and bedding I will be paying approx £375 a month.......

Too much? :( well I know it is subjective, oh I don't know what to bloomin' well do :(
