So I currently have a Origin saddle to try out. It's an event saddle if that helps . Owner wants £450 . Is this reasonable ? Apparently it's made by ideal but I've never heard of origin .

See below for pics . Many thanks :)

It's quite an old saddle by the looks of things, but if the tree is sound and the flocking good, and the horse likes it, and it's a good fit for you then it's worth the money!

They seem to be selling for about £250 at the mo in good, used condition... But you would have no guarantees it would fit. At least you can try this first...

If you google it, it appears that Farrington saddles make a Burford Event saddle, I'd pay £350 for that one..?

It will come with a full reflock and new girth straps I'm purchasing it through my saddler if that makes sense but she's selling it on behalf of the lady . Saddler reckons it isn't that old . I have offered £400 . It does fit though feels very comfy for my horse and I . Any other views welcome please . Thanks for all the comments so far

I wouldn't pay 450 for it id offer 300 & see what happens ... but I'm a great believer in you dont ask you don't get! Plus it's an older saddle
I got my cliff barnesby jump for 450 & it was a 6 month old saddle 1600 new, I got a bargain but still big difference

I offered 400 but she said no . I even offered 440 but she said no lower than 450 ! My horse is so much happier in it . Any idea how old you think this saddle is ?

You will always pay more for second hand saddles when buying through a saddler and with new straps and newly flocked, if it fits well and suits you then it sounds like a good deal to me. That said, there's no harm in a bit of haggling :)

I have 2 Burford events, same badge, & they're both made by Farrington, never heard of Origin.
I think they were 250 & 350. Near New condition but bought off eBay 5-6yrs ago.

If the saddle fits your horse and you properly and tree etc is good, and they will only accept £450 then you need to decide if you can afford to spend that. If you can, great, if you can't then you need to tell your saddler what your budget is. In this case you are also paying for the flocking and new straps, plus the saddler's time, and they will surely get a percentage of the price, so chances are the seller is getting a fair bit less than £450 anyhow.

Agree, Arizahn, that's what I was trying to say, you've done a much better job :)

ETA last year it cost me £100 to have a saddle completely reflocked and girth straps replaced on another cost me £10 per strap.
