I have been to look at a horse that is bombproof but has very slow paces. He is a nice lad but only used for hacking at walk and trot for the last 6 months. He is priced at £2500 but open to sensible offers . . . .but what would be sensible and not cheeky?

He is a 14.1 - 8 years old comes with tack - He is looking a little worse for ware as un rugged - I was thinking of offering £1800 but thought that might be cheeky

I wish I had u lot come to view my horses! People want everything for nothing! Got a 15.3 12 yr old mare, has taught people to ride, bombproof hack, jumps affiliated moves nicely, and easy to do in all ways and can't seem to get any interest at 2500. Must b this area?? Lol

Hi at this time of year i would offer £1500 also have a good look at the tack as it may not be worth haveing .
Good luck :)

What she said ^^^^^

it may be that in ^ months time you find the horse to slow for you and have to sell to move forward

i just bought mine for 1K a 15.3 6 yr old cob that is very forward going and jumps a meter plus it was advertised at 1900

so there is food for thought for you

Well it really depends on how much the horse is worth to you and how keen the owner is to sell. Those are the 2 variables that nobody other than the people in question can answer.

That said, you want to go in at £1800. Cheeky, a little yes. But if you don't ask, you don't get. In your shoes I'd go in at £1800 if that is what he is worth to you and then see where you go from there, you can always increase your offer.

I always make cheeky offers and some of the time people say yes. Paid asking price for my youngster straight away as he was worth that to me, but made an offer on all my other horses. Some only 10% off, some 25%. One horse I got from free as they just wanted it gone ASAP and another I wanted it gelded and delivered and they accepted less for him that this costed. Really does depend on sellers circumstances. I've lost out on a few good horses because we couldn't come to a deal, so depends how much you want the horse. Would you be unhappy if someone else made a higher offer and he went to them?

The seller is in no rush and would prefer he goes to the right person, but also has had little interest in anybody wanting to pay upfront, people just seem to want to loan or pay in installments!!
I would be annoyed if I lost to another buyer as he is a saint in terms of ground manners etc. He is unfit and is currently only being ridden a few times a month. I need something to just have fun on with no complications and he does fit that bill but I think within time I maybe under horsed - but better than being over I guess :)

Have a serious think before making an offer at whatever price. Will this pony be suitable for you in the longer term. We bought my daughter the ideal confidence giving pony summer 2011 but he was slow. It wasn't very long before my daughter started to get frustrated as she wanted something more forward going that could keep up with my mare. Fortunately we found the pony a super home but that was after only 9 months of owning him. We now have a super safe but forward going mare who will be with us for the duration. You can have safe, sensible but forward so it may be worth searching for a bit longer.
