15.3hh/16hh 5 years old Reg ISH, green book, by Welcome Diamond out of Clover Kilkee, so Grandsire is Cloverhill and G/Grandsire is King Of Diamonds. Wonderful temperament and laid back nature, good to do in all ways, brilliant in traffic, hacks alone/company. 3 nice paces but schooling is green. Has hunted for a season in Ireland and competed hunter trials to 1m. Really super jump and attitude. Jumps course of coloured poles.

any thoughts? thanks

eeek, ok, just seen sticky !

sorry admin, can i make it very clear that this horse IS NOT and WILL NOT BE for sale. please dont smack my wrists!

Think it depends on if you afford to replace if something terrible happens, if so then I would insure for a low amount to keep the premiums down but get the benefits of all the vets fees etc. Thats what I have done.
Also depending on the insurance company a valid current vets certificate is needed if you insure for over £3k with some and £5k with another.

thanks louby - yes i think thats the crux of it really... being able to afford to replace with same quality of horse should something happen.

ive jsut insured Ellie, and what bumps it up is the vets fee bit (and lou if you do it)

changing a policy from 2k to say 4k wont actully make a huge amount of difference. What i did find when insuring for a lower amount but with high vets fees, is with some of the policys if you read the small print, they wont nessacery pay out or approve a claim for 5k if you have only insured the horse for 2k.

just check the policy, or to be very safe give the company a call and ask out right.

Its a difficult one, Im with NFU and have £5k vets fees, this has been exceeded twice, fractured leg and tooth removal under GA, my friend has a horse insured for the same amount £2100 with a different company, her premium is £6 a month cheaper but she was horrified to find out her vet fee limit is £2k. She recently had to have a full lameness workup, a few xrays and Tildren and shes almost up to her limit. I think everyones requirements are different, I insure to get max vets fees as I like to think that he can have the best possible care if something bad happens but some people can easily afford large vets fees and would rather insure horse for more with a lower total vets fee as that isnt an issue for them.

I would say insure him £1000 over what you paid for him, thats what i done with taz it makes my insurance £3 more expensive a month but for him he's worth it :) and i have vets fees up to 5k as he is the most accident prone horse i have ever met

If you're looking for a LOU value, I wouldn't bother insuring for it.

I'd insure it for a low value just to keep premiums down :).

As someone currently claiming LOU, for a horse I paid quite a lot of money for, I completely disagree! :D:D
