So - One horse has to go! I cant keep three and compete them all, and it is looking like it may be Cruz who goes. So going to test the water and advertise her. I'll never have a horse as bold as her at such a young age, but I just havent got the time to take her out as much as she needs it. I have just affiliated BSJA with Spider and Dexter and Dext is my main Priority, also took Spider XC yesterday and she was super, bit sppoky but bold into the fences. So think it could have been a ground thing with her as she has quite low heels.

So anyway! Cruz is a 16.1hh 4yr old, Cruising and Clover Hill lines. Hacks alone and in company. 2nd in 1st unaff dressage, very forward going. Jumps anything!! VERY VERY bold. Completed 1st PAVO at Firle. Never stops. jumps fillers, ditches, barrells water trays. Anybody's ride really, nice temp very soft in your hands and good to box hack shoe etc.

So how much!?

I really like her, I reckon anywhere between £6500 and £8500 depending on what her conformation and paces are like and what she's like to ride.

Thanks - Have put her at the higher end of that just to test the water and im sure when people try her they wont be able to fault her for her age.

Paces are lovely as far as ISH paces go obviously doesnt have warmblood paces. But she is accurate and forward going and light in the hand.

And her confirmation is great - does have a few knocks and scrapes on her hinds, the field she is in is full of marish horses and they kick cr*p out of each other! Not good!

I'm not being critical hon, but surely if you want to event seriously she will be a better bet than Spider who you had massive doubts with? Surely it would be better keeping hold of the really bold youngster than sell Cruz and then have the same probs with Spidey next year?

Thats ok hon I asked for opinions - Dexter is the one I will seriously event anyway, and im going to hunt Spider over the winter and hope I dont have the same problems! I think the ground has lots to do with it with her

I personally think the ground was really good this year there was one time it got hard in June then it rained and did not stop. I have not run on any hard ground this year?

Eventers cannot afford to have dodgy/senstive feet they cost too much long term. I think you are mad selling Cruz but hey what do I know?

Im not sure if you ran at Hambledon or Nurstead? Both had hard ground. She relished Borde Hill, Poplar Park etc where the ground was great. She is also an excellent SJer which I am rubbish at so I can BSJA her over the summer months. Ground around me best part of this year was very very hard - only just been ok with this rain. We didnt get all the rain everywhere else did this year

Have Keysoe unaff ODE with both this Sun then OPN at Tweseldown and Little Downham with Dexter to finish season - then BSJA BSJA!!

You?

Cool, well good luck for sunday. We've just got Draycott as long as the bad luck fairy doesnt visit again, and then G is having 6weeks holiday to chill and get fat!

Then aiming on BDing and BSJA until the season starts again....!!

I'd say 6.5 to 7K max, but I think you are bonkers selling her and keeping Spider! If the ground was hard for you this year when it has been so wet everywhere else, then it will only be worse in the future, so surely Spider will be affected by that more next year, not less? I think SJ and dressage can all be sorted, but you cannot buy or train boldness XC!

Just my opinion though - after all, you know your horses, I don't! Good luck selling, seems to be a difficult job this year.

H_J, which one doesn't like hard ground, Spider or Cruz?

Sorry if I'm being dim..

If she's as bold as you say I think I'd grit my teeth and take her eventing next season (even if it's only for a bit) to get some good results on her card and hopefully make more cash. (But that's easy to say with all my free student time!!

) Alternatively you could give her to me, I think that's a fabulous solution.

At the moment though, I'd have to agree with Boss, with no actual results and being ISH; I wouldn't expect to see her advertised for much over 6k. Half the time I think it's getting people tempted to come out and try a horse, then they realise what quality they really are. I think a price tag of 8k would perhaps put me off looking, but that's just my opinion. I do, however, think she looks super and I'm sure I could find room for her here!

She looks a nice type and sounds an exciting prospect for the future. I'm afraid you might struggle to achieve the £ you want with no real competition record. If it were me (and I know it is easy from an armchair perspective) I would keep her and let Spider go. It's hard enough to preserve horses and keep them sound and happy throughout their career without starting out with possible issues. If she really dislikes firm ground then however careful you are with her she really won't make an eventer. You may have to accept that perhaps you get a couple of runs very very early in the season and then again very late. It might just frustrate you later on........ Good luck with whatever you decide - they are both lovely mares.
