im going to be forced to sell zak as im going on my gap year in the summer, but i was just wondering as a heads up around how much to put him up for.
He is 16hh 14yr tbxcon gelding
absolutely perfect stable manners, very very docile chap on ground, you can leave him standing in the yard and he wont move!He has a fantastic jump and never refuses, absolutely fantastic xc. He has no vices other than that he is strong and can get fizzy, but not to a stupid level. Never spooks/bucks/rears. He affiliated with his old owner but i have no transport so only did what i could get to, he has been around the biggest fences at stockland lovell/pontispool/blackdown hills. He has lovely paces-and can do extended trot, shoulder in, stop to canter. I havnt done much on dressage as i focus on sj and xc. He is an absolute angel and a very pretty boy if i say so myself!!He is one of those that you want to keep forever. His age doesnt reflect him, as he is still full of energy, and only the other day i jumped him 5ft

i know!!Well i could but I have to go to Uni when i get off my gap year, and I cant take him to where ive got offers from

Unless i put him on a long term loan....but ive always been told things get really difficult?

Ah, was confusing him with another horse.

Have you looked at what options are available around these universities in terms of livery yards etc outside the city???
 
Yes i did consider it-unfortunately my main choice is birmingham, and there is nothing for miles!!Even if i did choose another uni there is very limited livery, manchester there is none, durham there is but i havnt had an offer from them yet (and doubt i will!!) and none in southampton, and with leeds it is too far away so in holidays i would be stuck with what to do with him

If he was my horse I would find a uni where i could take him to a yard close by. I ended up doing my HND at Hartpury instead of my uni of choice so I could stay at home & commute every day as this is the only way I could afford to keep my horses & get an education. There are other options available to selling him, make sure you have investigated all of your choices before selling what looks to be a horse of a life time for you.
 
He looks fab. I would say around the £4k mark but could be anything really. I may know someone in Devon who would loan & is looking for something to SJ. If you are interestd pm me.
 
I was at Birmingham (no horse though) and it should be workable from there. If you have a car, you can actually drive to uni if you park in Selly Oak, you'd need to walk some of the way. Train from University Station is both frequent and reliable, and runs until quite late all week (unlike other Birmingham lines - look along there if you don't have transport.

Can't help with the others, but I'm sure there are livery yards available closeish to town.
 
I'll have him! Ok, so maybe not, my mum would kill me if i took on something else! hee hee

On a serious note though, what you studying at uni? I would say Leeds would be your best bet (but am bias as I live there), I have space (land anyway) with my 4 if you did want to grass livery him or alternatively there are about 5 or 6 liveries in my surrounding area (whcih is Bardsey about 8 miles out of Leeds) I would recommend Leeds as a uni though, much better night life than the others anyway! hee hee

There's there's my 10pence worth. I took my horse to college with me (Brackenhurst in Notts) but had bought him 2 years previous with that in mind anyway. Don't think could part with him now though (he is 17 now mind).

If you still did want to sell i think, if he's reliable and bold you can egt a fair bit for him pony club types are always looking for horses that'll turn their hand to anything - he looks and sounds liek he could make a good little event horse and peopel are willing to pay a fair bit for something that's a good safe alrounder so the sky's your limit I reckon!

there are places around if you come to durham, liveries etc, and an equestrian college that takes working livereis, pm me if you decide to keep him and come up here

Hi, sorry I'm new here after reading for a while - I'm at Southampton uni, and altho I don't have a horse I have a number of friends who do and keep at livery within a 15 minute drive. There are quite a few yards both towards the New Forest or towards Portsmouth - Botley way etc or even within 5 mins drive out towards Chilworth/Ampfield there are yards and farms. I don't know if that would change your mind on selling him if you were to come here - he looks lovely

If you were worried about time I bet you wouldn't find it too hard to find a sharer - the uni riding club is massive and I'm sure someone would take you up on it? The only problem would be if you didn't have a car - the public transport round here isn't fantastic for getting out towards the countryside...

what do you mean there is no livery near birmingham uni? Do you drive? if so, theres loads. My horses are in alvechurch, which is a about a 10 min train ride directly from bham uni, so its not out of the question.
By the way, he is lovely!!
 
kerrylou-is there?When i tried to find some i couldnt find any!!I doubt i would be taking my car with me....but maybe a possibility. Only thing is that i was going to try and focus on my work and then after I have got settled in what im doing to think about horses again. It will break my heart to let him go but to be honest I think it's what im going to have to do. I also have the major dilemma of money, because we can only just afford him now and that is at a super cheap livery. My dad says he won't pay for him after i leave school and what with student loan i will be in major debt, even if i found a sharer. I think i would prefer it if i found a really nice home for him where he can do lots of fun hunting/pony club/eventing etc because thats what he likes best. It just seems so complicated otherwise, and I may not have time to ride him each day at uni etc etc. I could be taking the easiest option, I dont know, but I know he would be just as happy with a new home and someone like me when i first got him

What utter tosh! I live down South and there are ample livery yards down here, you just have to scout out the good ones as few of them advertise!

P.S. What a gorgeous horse!
 
I went to Leeds and the nearest livery yard is only ten minutes walk from the campus on a city farm with lovely hacking in woods. if you can afford it I'd take him
