Someone wants me to plait up for them Saturday for showing Sunday and dressage Monday. I'm really busy at the moment with my exams in a few days/weeks and still have three of my own horses let alone some kind of social life! I'm thinking of taking some of my own (I.E can't be bothered with sohwing in the rain anymore) to the show too so will need to prepare them. So basicly I can't be nice anymore and do favour because I can't afford the time - how much should I ask for? I would say I plait up to a pretty decent standard although I'm not that quick - totaly perfectionist! How much for mane and tail together and each?

Just trying to refill the hole farrier left me with - £70 for trimming a minature shetland and two younsters

Thank-you XX

You should not do anything to or with someone elses horse for money or payment in kind... unless you have the correct insurance. Most accidents happen on the ground and you don't want to leave yourself liable.

Having said that, most grooms are on the minimum wage, so calculate the time it will take and work out the fee.

I charged £20 to pull a mane last week, I did it in two goes so £10 for each time.
Plaiting depends on the mane if its a pig to do then more if easy less. Prob say about £10 for the mane £5 for the tail.
Saying that one of the liveries here pay me in cookies for plaiting her horses forlock

I would never ask a friend for money for a favour.
If you haven't got time to do it then you haven't got time to do it for money either.

i would say £10 to £15. i was charged £15 for my horse to be trimmed and for his mane and tail to be pulled.
