Just out of interest... I'll let you know what I paid for him afterwards. I think I paid over the odds for him but would just be interesting to know.

Freddie is a rising 5yo, 14.2hh traditional coloured. I bought him from M&M show pony producers and he is now on a producers yard who specialises in traditional coloureds (had two rides at HOYS last year). He has been professionally backed and schooled on and is working beautifully in the school. Has done a little bit of jumping and has loved what he has done and shown real promise. Both producers that have worked with him have had very high hopes for him in the show ring. He is the most affectionate, loveable horse with a huge character. He will be your best friend!

He's been to a handful of local shows and been placed with good comments. He is now ready to start a career in ridden showing at a higher level. Well put together, and still filling out, and nicely marked with one blue eye. Masses of feather, long mane and huge tail! Big moving, beautiful paces, turns heads wherever he goes.

Hacks alone and in company, great in traffic and in open spaces. Brave, bold, likes to be in front. Will stand for hours to be bathed, perfect to shoe, loads himself, very well mannered at all times, excellent in every way, just takes everything in his stride. Very willing, reliable and a complete people pleaser. Not your average ploddy cob as he has a real presence yet is completely safe! I honestly can't fault this amazing little horse.

So how much do you think he's worth at this stage?

A lot of 'safe cobs' are advertised at £5k, which if you are a nervous beginner are worth it (if they are genuinely safe).

For the type of cob you have with genuine potential I would guess £5k - £7k (but I am as far from an 'expert' on these boards that you could get

)

Just wanted to join in the guessing game

Well I've said before how nice I think Freddie is!!

Has he only shown at local level? Has he been to anything affiliated or county level?

Not yet trendybaublecell. I took to local stuff last year due to my own lack of time/confidence, but he's going out at county level this year. Was due to go to CHAPS/PUK/Equifest qualifier this weekend but we're not going because of the snow forecast.

Just wondered how much people thought he was worth before he's done much, to see if I paid over his value...

but hes stunning and will quickly double in value if he
continues to go from strength to strength.
he does have a blue eye though and not much colour.
but he is a very nice cob and your very lucky

because i have always found my friends cob is placed down because of her blue eye.
and personally feel it does detract from value too.
im certainly not running him down personally,
i too had the cob of my dreams recently , but sadly
he was far too naughty and bolshy for me to handle :{
your fella seems a dream

That's interesting. There was at least one trad at HOYS with a blue eye last year and I have it on good authority that a horse should never be placed down because of a blue eye. Your friend should complain about any judges that discriminate against this as it isn't a fault and shouldn't affect them in the ring!

I do know it is something you either love or hate though, lol.

That's a shame about your cob being too much for you. Freddie is by no means a plod, he's got real spark, but he is well behaved and just wants to please. lol.

Just found this...
The BSPA website states that 'Horses and Ponies with one or two blue eyes should not be treated any different to those with brown eyes'

'blue eyes should not be penalised (a Special Award for the Best Blue Eyes may be given in some Colour and Markings Classes).'

'BSPA REQUIREMENTS FOR COLOUR: The lesser of the two colours shall meet the minimum requirements of a single patch of colour located on one side of the body covering and area of 15 x 15 cm (approximately the size of a saucer) is the minimum requirement for acceptance and must be accompanied by two or more of the listed markers:–
... 2. One or two blue, or partially blue eyes. The eyemay also be surrounded by white
(pigeon eye).'

Also, the photo on the cover of their 'Native Cob Vanner Types Explained' has a blue eye, so it certainly isn't frowned upon.

RE: the blue eye thing ive also found that judges do seem to have a preference and eventhough it shouldn't effect there judgement of the horse or it being placed, it sometimes does, in my experience. But that is only at local level. I have never had a horse with blue eyes but i do know a friend has found that some judges are bias towards her blue eyed boy.

I think its a bit like marmite people either love them or hate them im personally not a fan so wouldn't buy one.

He is a nice sort , and these types have really become popular over the years.
He is more a light weight cob than a heavier type and looks like he needs to mature and build up more. As regards to the wall eye , some peopel love them, soem people hate them. I had one on loan a few years back that i backed for the owners. She was a real head turner and was more of a heavy weight. She had a lot more colur than your chap. i had her insured for a grand during the time i had her. I would of paid between 1500 - 2000 for her. she was very laid back, woudl hack alone or in company, showed a good jump and had 3 good paces. photos are when she was 4 years old. i took her on when she was rising 4. she was 14.2hh. to mature 15hh

here are a few pics of her!

I would say currently until he's done more about £3500, when he's competed more £5000. I love Freddie, if he was a bit bigger I'd be on my way to steal him
