How much would you pay for a horse which has been a companion for about a year has been broken in previously but her owner had a fall so has not been ridden for about a year, she is 9 years old very nervous or people and everying basically, She is ok to groom and pick out feet and occasionally lets me catch her. Has tragged me galloping backwards when i clipped a lungeline on her with care, she would never kick or bite but is generally scared of a leaf! I think 9 years old is quite old to re break in a horse as it pos could be set in its ways and i dont want to pay too much... any ideas what you would pay would be a help please...

Personally,no more than a £750 even if its is well bred. You have to put alot of work in and shes older, plus if the owner had a fall off the horse is it due to a novice rider or ill behaved horse? , thats my opinion anyway :) . Good luckx

*soz had a blonde moment, did the previous rider had a fall of the horse you are interested in or another horse? Take into consideration this when buyingxx

Hey thanks for your advice basically i have her on loan the appy and the owner wants £1800 for her and im not willing to pay that for her she is basically saying that the price and she is not dropping it now im in a situation cos i dont want her to go but i dont want to feel i have to pay this just because i love the horse??? x

That is way too much!!! I wouldnt be paying more than £500 for a horse like that considering the ammount of work she would need. I wouldnt worry about her going anywhere at that price either.

ets: You could try showing the owner other horses for £1800 and show her how they compare (ie you would get a lot more for 1800 elsewhere and her horse isnt worth 1800) worth a shot

I'm with the others on this one - I think I'd pay £500-£700. She will not be able to sell her for the price she wants so I would not worry about her selling her elsewhere - stick to your guns! Good luck :D

Your horse's owner will be hoping you have fallen head over heels for this horse and is therefore asking well over the odds thinking you won't be able to refuse. As already said, around £500 sounds about right - I take it she is sound? And stick to your guns - there won't be many people flocking to buy a quirky unbroken 9 yr old!!

Thanks for advice :) , Yes she is sound and no health problems just has bad trust issues and is scared of her own shadow she keeps cantering backwards as soon as she doesn't like anything and being 15.3hh she is quite a strong horse to control when im only 5ft 3 :) her owner said if i didnt want to pay the price she would sell her as a broodmare as she has lovely paces and big jump wen loose schooled but i can't see many ppl paying this price for an unregistered appy just cause of their paces? thanks everyone you are making me see a bit more sence i was thinking i was being stingey by not paying this...

Agree with above. R u putting all the work in then? I only ask as I had a similar experience with a horse that had ridden issues and was pretty much left in a field. I started working him and people saw the potential. Offered owner £1500 but she knew what he potentially could be worth and wanted double that even tho at that stage he was worth v little. Think if I'd just offered her the money straight from the field might have got him for what he was worth. Moved on to a different yard and someone else took over riding him but by then I'd started him going well. They sold him for decent money but always felt a bit peeved that I put in the work and they made the money from him.

Yes im putting the work in she is on full loan to me at my field the owner doesnt interfere with her at all, i have not started doing much with her as in re backing her as i want to make sure ill be putting the hard work in for me and the horse not the owner to make more money from her for now she is happy enough just being groomed and eating i have started to lunge her a few times a week just to try and build the trust between us, I just wish her owner would try and negotiate a price to a loving forverer home :(

Yeah i know what u mean, just don't get stung in that u get her going nicely and then owner wants her back to sell her for a profit. I know that's life with loaning and stuff but it really is a kick in the ar$e when it happens to you!

This is a pic of her i know you can't tell much from a pic just thought i would let you see what horse im talking about :)
