However as a few of you know about a week ago Bloss's sharer dumped me in it and b*ggered off still owing me money

Blossy has been up on my trainers website in the BYRDs section and last night i had 3 calls about her. 2 of the people were unsuitable, but the 3rd sounded really good and exactly what i want for her.

The only problem is they live in Essex and would want her on loan and not share (obviously). Now ive said they can come and ride her and see what they think and we will go from there. Its nothing ive really considered before, but something that after sleeping on it i might actually consider to the right home.

Now i have no idea at all what id charge for her to be out on loan per month........any ideas?

Just for people who dont know shes a fit competition horse, she competes elementary/medium level BD.

I was thinking in the region of £150 a month. Id be interested to hear of any people who loan out their competition horses and how much for etc.....

Loan means that all payments for keep is met by the loanee. Therefore you pay nothing out, and they pay for all keep. Sometimes insurance etc can be negotiable.

Theyve said to me they are willing to pay a monthly fee on top for her, hence why im asking! Id still be paying for her insurance and BD membership, not them, they would be paying for everything else. Also they would only be having her for a year, if shes even suitable that is.

I agree, you're not talking about a loan agreement here, but a leasing arrangement. The advert states Loan / Lease / Share, so a little confusing perhaps as they may be expecting to be able to Loan her from you, in which case they would only be covering livery, vets etc....

ETS: Replies crossed in the ether....If they are willing to pay on top, then see what they are offering

If you are charging them a fee then you are leasing her out to them. Loan agreements are normally as the earlier posts the loanee takes on the care & costs of the horse (insurance depends on arrangement), but without paying a fee to the owner on top of the keep costs.

That is leasing rather than loaning and £150 a month sounds about right if you are going to continue her BD membership and insurance

Sorry - cross posted re. leasing

instead of paying for her insurance and bd membership get them to do it and get no money off them sounds the more sort of normal way! no offense

Always pay the insurance as the owner....that way the proceeds of any claim are automatically yours, and not the loaners, and also you have control over making sure the insurance premium is kept paid up !

Loaning they dont pay you any money, you lend them the horse and they just pay all costs except insurance. Leasing they pay you a mothly/ yearly fee for the horse and also pay all maintainance costs except insurance.

I think you want to lease her rather than loan if you want money for her each month xx

Surely BD must be able to give you some help with this?? Don't they have an area to advertise horses/ponies for lease to dressage riders etc.

I think i want to go down the leasing route it looks like.........

Which is why I thought about BD - and any help they may be able to offer.

How about your trainer - have they got any good contacts??

hi

there was an ad by exmoor eventing in HH last week where a horse was for sale or lease, can't recal the exact figures but it was in the region of £12,500 for sale or £250.00 per month to lease. i don't know what value you have on your mare, but perhaps this can be a guideline.

as i see it - leasing a horse is different from loaning one, esp comp horses.

cheers

hmm leasing it is then. The woman i spoke to did say would i lease or loan, and i said id have to see, as like i said above id never thought about sending her away before

However all this is VERY hypothetical as they might not even like her! (altho i cant think why not, however im obviously biased!!)

whenever i have loaned or had horses on loan you generally pay for everything. i was lucky as 2 i had on loan their owners paid for the insurance. but other than that i paid for everything. if do go ahead just make sure you check out copies of loan agreements and check her regularly for peace of mind. get references from people as well. i have copies of loan agreements if you are interested.

no offence, but im not asking for comments on what picture has been used. As it so happens i have no suitable ridden piccies that are recent, as we've only recenelty just got a digital camera. Secondly, video is avaliable (like ive written).

have contacted Polly who does the website, the pictures have been swapped over for some wierd reason! altho when you click on my advert it brings up the correct picture!!
