How much should I expect to pay for a pony for my daughter? It needs to be completely safe, no lumps or bumps, no vices, not forward going and needs to be able to jump 60/70. The only reasonably priced ones I’ve seen are young but I don’t see how a young horse can be safe?
thanks in advance x

What sort of height of pony are you looking for?

Prices are high at the moment, and it will be mid four figures at least for what you are after, unless you're looking for something pretty small. Something completely safe and steady will probably be more than that, and you may need to make a compromise somewhere.

A young horse may be safe, but I agree anything that hasn't been there and done that is a risk, and it may all go wrong if your daughter is inexperienced or nervous?

I’m looking for around 13.2, she’s not a novice but I’d like her to have an easy push button horse that could take a novice for pony club.

My little pony is beautiful, a true kids pony, more whoa than go jumps 70cm with ease has been brought on by beginner rider from the start with lessons twice a week. Kids fallen off pony goes to make sure she is okay and kisses her better she is 11.3 and worth her weight in gold. Kid catches her tacks her up herself grooms picks feet etc does it all basically she is a small 10 year old the pony was 6 yesterday. My point being dont discount youngsoppy reindeer.jpg

I too wouldn’t discount young if it’s got a sensible head on its shoulders. With something older you can obviously benefit from their experience, but good little jumpers can be high mileage and lumps & bumps can come with the territory.

ETA: On safety- there are plenty of been there done it types that have picked up a few tricks along the way too! (My sons first pony) Sometimes, young but sensible can also be unspoilt- we have this benefit with my sons second pony!
