We have a 13.2hh Strawberry Roan mare, 12 years old, will hack out alone or in company, she won't jump, but would be an ideal childs 2nd pony. At the moment she is used for pony club stuff and enjoys games but is not really fast enough to be great at that.
But she has COPD and sweetitch, the COPD is ok as long as she is fed wet hay and the sweetitch is ok as long as she has a fly rug on. She is a complete cow to handle and will bite people and horses and occasionally kick other horses if in a confined area and near food (this resulted in a broken hock for her last year when she had an argument over hay with my 29 year old mare!). However she has never bitten or kicked the kids, only adults!!
We were thinking of about £800, do you think this is about right?

Eeek, you'll have to be pretty careful selling her? Anything that is unpleasant to handle would, for me, be a complete no-no around kids unless very experienced and primarily handled by experienced parents/adults. Is she difficult on the leadrien (ie does she try to kick the leader!)

Personally I would pay nowhere near £800 given that she has health problems and is not good to handle but is a kids pony and also most kids like to jump. Saying that she may be just what someone is looking for in which case you may get that for her.

Id be asking much less say £200-£400 but then you dont want to attract dealers/numptys!! this pony sounds like it COULD cause an accident if the new owners were complete novices. Id be very wary who you sell this pony to, see if you get interest from that price but id be prepared to drop it an awful lot if the right person come along.
