We've paid an additional £30 for our next break away (7 nights) and we're more than happy with that.

For us it's not a holiday we'd go without our dog, it's a dog walking holiday, we'd go abroad if it was for just us so if the place is perfect (love a secure garden) you could probably get away with charging us a fair bit!

Basically I think it would depend how much I was spending on the rental itself and up to 10% additional wouldn't put me off.

I was at a training course last Oct so stayed at travel Lodge for 6 nights as it was cheapest.
I needed my partner to come with as I needed a driver so he took the dogs out through the day and spent time with them dropping me off in the morning and picking me up late afternoon/early eve.

I paid £30 per night for a week to have our 2 dogs with us earlier this year.
I take throws to put on furniture and a large throw for bed as the Spaniel can't possibly sleep without touching you and the GSD casts almost non stop.

I do take coats, jumpers (for spaniel), towels, dog robes etc so I can get them as dry as possible so as to make as little mess as possible. We have brushes, sponge and bought a small washer so we could get mud off them outside.

It's more expensive than putting them in kennels but we budget for it and live having them with us while we explore areas.

I’m the same, in that my holidays are always walking ones with at least one or two dogs in tow and I don’t mind paying a dog charge per week but this is £20 for the dog on top of £140 for the room. It’s a good location for the event I’m going to though so I’ll just suck it up.

I don't mind a per week fee, but a per night, per dog fee ramps up with three.

I bath mine before we go away anywhere, they'll sleep in pjs, I'll take beds and throws to cover everything possible. I also wash paws after every walk

I've seen some properties state small dogs only which can be frustrating. Mine are big but are hardly noticeable inside because they just sleep

I stayed at Days Inn last weekend, just the one night with 2 dogs.
That was an extra £15 per dog for the one night. Last time I stayed there it was £10 per dog per night

I have happily paid a dog fee on a number of cottage holidays, considering it to be part of the overall cost. I tend not to worry about whether such prices are "fair" as it is up to the owners to charge whatever they want and break those charges down as they wish. If they still get bookings at that price and are not having empty periods because of the dog pricing then obviously that works for them.

Basically it is up to each person to decide whether or not they want to stay in a cottage/whatever that charges extra for a dog. I don't really see it as a problem as no-one is forcing you to take you dog(s) with you so it us up to the individual to assess whether or not they want to pay any dog charges and whether they consider the overall cost to be affordable.

My parents have a holiday rental in France that they used to let pets stay for free in. They had a different rug and different sofa covers for when pets were staying. But people kept turning up with unannounced pets, so my parents got fed up of the pet-free rugs and sofa covers being covered in hair. They've now introduced a per stay pet cleaning charge, which is the same whether you stay two nights or three weeks no matter how many animals. (They've also had someone turn up with a sort of unannounced child! Rental sleeps 4, couple turned up with three kids and then moaned that the twin bedroom wasn't big enough to put a camp bed in).

I do think some pet owners (we've had people show up with cats as well) can be entitled. I joined a (french) facebook group for traveling with your dog(s). I thought it would be a great way to get some ideas of places to visit and things to do. It turned out the vast majority of posts were dogs owners moaning there was nowhere for them to take 6 to 10 large dogs on holiday, that all the beaches are closed to dogs in the summer holidays, etc.. I soon left it.

I have found it varies from place to place. I am just back from a hotel which doesn't charge any extra but have been to places who charge £15 per dog per night. I have just booked a hotel for next year which charges £15 per stay regardless of the number of dogs (although they did say they would rather not have 10 in a room!), that seems very reasonable to me!
