As this is a "feel good factor thread" I'll post my first post. Last week I was on my way out to go clean someone's house. I stopped at the top of the road to put my rubbish out for bin men. (I live in the middle of nowhere and my farm road takes you straight onto the A66 Moterway) A bloke jumped out of his car and as he approached I put my window down and shouted "don't worry I'm not flytipping", he replied "ok but I've just had a blow out and my spare's got a slit in it". He asked what the nearest town was and I replied Barnard Castle. He said do they have a tyre place I said yes jump in and I'll take you. He said brill, spoke to his wife who was sat in the car and then off we went. Transpires he was on his way to pick up a new car from Kirby Stephen to Darlington ( a very long way). The garage put the new tyre on very quickley, said he was lucky as this was the last one of that size. Drove him back to his car and he offered me £10 which I refused, as I was about to drive off he opened the door and insisted I took the money. So, I get to the house I'm cleaning, feel really good about coming to someones rescue, spend all day there then on return home stop at the shop. When I get back in the car guess what I saw? Yes, the blokes brand new tyre :eek: The next night the man knocks on my door. I'm very, very embarressed when he tells me that I simply just drove off, he ran waving his arms, shouting "STOP" but I was oblivious. I said what the heck did you do? Well his brother drove all the way from Kirby Stephen, picked him up, drove him another 17 miles to Bishop Auckland, bought ANOTHER tyre, (they were hoping they would see my car parked up outside somewhere, little did they know I was in another county, in the other direction) his brother then took his wife back home and he travelled on to finally pick up his new car. When he picked up his tyre from me the next night he had driven from University in Carlise, to mine to then drive up to Darlington to deliver the tyre to the person who bought the car off him and then was driving all the way home again. He said he told his mates on face book about how this random women stopped to help him out and how the good deed turned ugly in the blink of an eye:D

We were in our first season of proper BE eventing and had entered the Brightling Park, East Sussex BE 90 with a start time of before 8 o'clock! This would have meant leaving the house at 4 a.m. or earlier and we trailer the horses, no horse box, no living. I telephoned the organiser, Diana Grisell to ask what we could do, camp in a tent maybe? She invited us to stay in her house! We did, my daughter (16 at the time) had a very nice go at this lovely venue, going double clear, and has ridden it several times since. The Grissells are very well connected in the National Hunt/local hunt worlds, didn't know us from Adam, but put us up and fed us dinner. There will always be a special place in my heart for them. Never say horsey people are mean-spirited, because in my experience, they are not!

What a fabulous thread and I have lots of similar stories :D

But this one is the most poignant for me... I have a very elderly, spinster aunt who lives the other side of the country to me, all on her own, out in the sticks. Her only companion is her cat whom she treats as her own child.

Unfortunately the cat (which we picked up from the Blue Cross after her last one died years ago) has a hormone problem and is very skinny (albeit very healthy otherwise). The vets have now given her a pill to take daily but the cat is quite contrary and doesn't like taking pills! My elderly aunt is not able to give the cat the pill!

So the vet nurses at the practise have taken it upon themselves to drive over to my aunts house (out of their way) every single day, after work, and give the cat a pill. They do it between them, they are both young girls, and not only do they administer the pill but they stop for a cup of tea and a chat, offer to do any other jobs and to an elderly, lonely old lady this is a something to look forward to.

Both of them are young girls in their 20's and they have been doing it for months now completely free of charge, purely out of the good of their own hearts - how amazing is that?
