How NOT to start a young horse

OMG...the second one is awful!

That makes me so screamingly angry. I'd like to slap his stupid face for him - utterly ignorant and cruel.

By the way the man holds the reins after wraping his hand around with the rope reins and no hat

I think he's used to riding in a bull ring or when they back horses on some ranches in America.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. This is often how horses were broken when I was younger. (Don't shoot me) but to be honest horses then were a lot better behaved than a lot that are supposed to have been proffessionally broken now. Not like the first video which I thought looked worse because I don't think any of them knew what they were doing.

Please don't be to harsh because I know you all think I'm wrong.

Ugh. That second one is vile and worse, the person who posted that clip has 26 others just like it.

I had a similar and equally unpleasant surprise the other day when I YouTubed 'piaffe' and ended up coming across a lot of Spanish videos that involved a lot of stick, shouting, and nauseating comments from idiots reading things like, "Oh look at the ickle horsey dancing!" with no idea what was actually happening.

Agree as that's how horses were 'broken' in the past. It looks like it was filmed on a ranch.

I agree it isnt nice, but that little grey must trust him fairly well to stand so still to have the saddle refitted. Though a little nervous it didnt appear to be fearful.

I have never seen, but have heard, of some of the stories about how they break racehorses over here......doesnt sound any better to me.....maybe i have been misinformed??

They are both pretty terrible, the first guys seems ignorant and the second man cruel. I was expecting worse, having seen a man tie a warmblood up by the front leg so he was on his knees when first sat upon I would say at least those horse both had a chance to fight back. This was only 4 years ago in the UK, I was almost physically sick seeing from the rode side. Ofcourse the ILPH could do nothing about it as the horse showed very little physical injuries. So sad that it ends up being this way rather than just spending some time with the horse and giving them a chance

I agree with you, I did expect them to be worse. Not that I condone them for a moment, but people do have different ways of going about things and it's not so long ago that people here broke horses in rather unpleasantly (and I'm sure many still do).

What a couple of eejits in the 1st video, they dont have a bloody clue.

and the t**ts in the 2nd one should give up!

Oh yeah cos when you back a horse you do it alone and then beat it with the reins!

[/ QUOTE ] Do not agree this this though. I've just watched them both again agree with comments on first horse. The second one though he never once hit the grey with the reins
confused.gif
Because they are single rope reins he crossed them over on the neck. Not once did he BEAT the horse up with the reins
