How offended are you by peoples comments

I read this and sometimes it is very nice to be middle-aged....!!

Yup!

Anybody could say whatever they like about the horses in my care. Unless their opinion is one I have reason to respect or pay attention to, what they say is of absolutely no interest to me.

If anybody fed my horses or even touched them without a very good and urgent reason they would see quite a different side of me though.

I'm afraid if anyone had said that to me about my mare (who is actually a very nice looking ginge) I would have been reduced to a childish response along the lines of 'he\she is still less fugly than you though' and then walked away :-P

My horse gets called a multitude of things :p mostly "mule", "fatty" and a new one this week "Gym" (cos everytime my YO rides him, she looses a pound :p)

I think he is getting a personality disorder!

he is also called stupid etc. He's actually incredibly intelligent, he just does very stupid things :p

I don't get offended, to be honest I take the mick out of my own horses too much to be bothered about what other people think, I know there faults/quirks and my own horse can be a pain in the backside with other horses, so if someone speaks badly of him, well its no doubt true lol

We all take the mick out of each others nags and laugh it off, it's the only to keep sane!

But we don't fall out about it, your yard sounds dreadful with all that going on.

Too be honest I do think my lad is fairly ugly anyway so would not care lol
Although most people think he is stunning so??

However if they said he was useless or nasty/naughty then I would not be pleased as this is not true

I'd move yards cos they sound like absolute idiots! and i've been in the same situation myself and it only ever makes you feel rubbish about yourself! you need to be at a yard where people encourage you and don't always put you down!

A very, very respected rider and trainer once said that Josie was the worst horse she'd ever ridden/been near in all her life.
doesn't matter to me, she's my horse not hers.

It would be a ridiculous thing to say because my horse is quite clearly handsome. Fact. I would assume they would say it because their horse actually is ugly and they would be trying to make themselves feel better about having an ugly, pig-eyed, muley creature with the confirmation of a hyena.

Nobody but me insults my horse and gets away with it. I boil it all down to jealousy obviously!

In the space of a week, the new member of staff at my yard called my horse "evil" (because he committed the heinous crime of pulling a face at a horse he doesn't like!), "the ****tiest on the yard" (funny though that when she has been mucking out the day before I do it I get 2 big barrows of muck out, when I've or anyone else had done it it's only 1!!) and that he "stinks" because he has a garlic supplement! I was NOT amused.
At first I was hopping mad, but have calmed down now and just laugh at her. She regularly refers to her horse as "It" which I think is awful! She doesn't seem to enjoy being around horses at all, so it is a mystery to me why she works with them?
My Mom always says that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all! I just smile sweetly and ignore it.
