How often are your horses/ ponies teeth checked ?

Re the posts about vets and/or EDTs - I've used a few EDTs and it's exactly like anything else - vets, farriers, back people etc etc - there are good and not-so-good ones. So in my view, it's just not possible to generalise and say that all EDTs do unnecessary work on horses' teeth.
One EDT came to us several years ago and was so bad that she wasn't even allowed to finish the work on the first horse - I sent her away and would never have her back. Our current EDT is excellent. As a rule, she recommends nine-monthly check ups, but will advise us on any potential issues if relevant. When my pony needed his wolf teeth out earlier this year she advised us on exactly which vet from the practice should carry out the procedure as some vets are better with dental problems than other vets.

You could say that bad vets, farriers and barefoot trimmers "shorten horses' lives" - but we have to acknowledge that some vets, farriers.barefoot trimmers and EDTs are very good at their jobs and play a vital role in our horses' health.

Once a year. My mare had a broken tooth last year, so had to have a second check after 6 months to see if it has stabilised or if it needed to come out (it came out), all was okay when she had her check this year (6 months after tooth came out).

15 year old Dutch Warmblood mare, poor teeth, every 6 months!

Recommended by both my old and new EDT so I am pretty sure thats correct - didn't tell new EDT who previous EDT was or what he recommended so I am confident its the right call.

Mine are checked twice a year but they are not necessarily treated. I get done twice a year so I don't see why my horses shouldn't.
