How often do vets miss a pregnancy?

As title really. Mare took first time last year with Fresh and had a lovely healthy but enormous colt in June.

First insemination in July with chilled. Vet could see something on the scan but wasn’t sure so came back a few days later and decided not pregnant but she had a large Cl. We pg’d and she recycled.

Inseminated again with a 55mm follicle and again scanned not pregnant but has a large Cl 17 days post insemination and hasn’t come back into season.

Just wondering how often young embryos are missed and if it is a chance here?

mm. Might be best to get one who is and discuss a visit. I mean you'd hope an equine specialist would be correct but then again I've known stranger things!

I would get a proper repro vet to take a look.
Did you have a post-insemination scan to confirm ovulation and no fluid? Does the mare have any uterine cysts?

Sadly few and far between in this area. But could perhaps take her to the uni hospital.

Vet said no cysts on initial fertility scan back in June. But decided the ‘non pregnancy thing’ was probably a cyst on the second scan.

No sadly not scanned for ovulation as both were over a weekend and they are emergency only.

Breeding stallion is now closed for this season so we won’t get another shot now but I guess I’m just hopeful it could have been missed!

How frustrating for you, it really is doing half a job if you don’t do the post-insemination check. If you're beyond 28 days your vet should be able to find anything in there and should detect a heartbeat so maybe worth another look
