Hi all,
Whilst cleaning my grooming kit yesterday, I realised I've probably cleaned it 3 times in the last year! My old riding school YO would be horrified, they were done weekly! How often do you clean yours? (By "clean" I mean properly wash everything).

you will be horrified then - i had my last horse 3.5 yrs i cleaned my grooming kit when i sold her and bought my new horse. ...... intentions of keeping it clean after..... yeah never been cleaned since. It is bad, just never find time, always something else to do.

I normally do a big clean - ie bath the horse, clean rugs, pressue wash stables, clean tack, etc (ie really blitz everything) every so often when I feel like it which usually works out every 3/4 months. I wash all brushes etc at the same time.

when I can be bothered i'm afraid, generally after a change of coat in my horse, or if she's been particulary dirty or scurrfy or if i'm going to bath her and then groom after I like clean brushes. Bit easier now I can wack them in the washing machine at work! shhh!

I never thought of that - putting them in the washing machine. That's genius! I have one of those bags you can put girths and stuff in to protect them and your machine, I could put the brushes in there! Thanks :D

every couple of months i suppose, usually more in the summer than winter as i leave them all out to dry, although i had never considered putting them in the washing machine and drying them out at home ... i might bring them home with me later and try it out! :D

i dont bother when a nrush looks grubby i just replace it.... managaged to get one of those bentley grooming kits brand new for £3 at a carboot!!!

I clean the brushes against each other every time I use them but as far as washing them goes... They get washed when 1) I bath the horse and use the brush to 'scrub' the shampoo in 2) I leave them out in the rain by accident

I'm very bad for cleaning brushes...normaly done when my grooming brush bucket gets so much straw in it from Galaxy's stable that i can't fit everything in anymore!!

Mine gets washed weekly - you can't expect to get the horse clean if the brushes are dirty. My body brush is washed every day during the show season - I have two so one in use - one in the wash!

Stable rubber, sponges all go through the wash weekly after a soak in Napisan. Everrything is rinsed with some Canestan in wash rinse to kill off any fungal bugs.

i do mine monthly in winter & weekly in summer as they dont get groomed so much in winter as turned out 24/7.
i chuck mine in the machine & then let them dry sat on a radiator, i also scrub out feed buckets after every feed & bring home & but through dishwasher once a week. water trough also gets scrubbed out once a week in winter & every other day in summer.
likewise headcollars & leadropes get washed monthly too.

I tried that once - and broke part of the agitator off the machine so wash them in a bucket now.

I'm really bad like that!-they get washed about 3 times a year max. If the brushes look grubby, I go and buy new ones instead of cleaning the brushes they have- is that bad?!!.

Reading this post prompted me to take a deep breath and clean out my grooming kit. I'm so glad I did! The brushes were all greasy and dirty, the tack box had general muck and mould growing in it! :O All sparkly now, after a good 2 hours spent cleaning it all up. Am replacing the bristled brushes as they're at least three years old and I dread to think what grime's lurking in there... :S

Buckets rinsed out most days in summer, less in winter because of icy yards etc. Rugs kept clean though, can't stand putting on greasy fleece rugs! Don't clean water troughs or leadropes really... However I do clean my tack regularly, as it's new so I want to keep it nice.

He is well fed, rugged and shod though! :D

I only use a jelly for grooming, so it gets washed when I wash the horse. Regular in summer, hardly ever in the winter.

I must be worst, as I only have the one item!
