Having not ridden since July last year and cleaning my tack for others to ride my horse, I wondered how often we clean our tack on this here site....

I used to clean it once a week when I competed every weekend or after every sweaty session, however, now that its not me riding, I clean it when its really bad

What do you do?

Since I've had two horses I have to admit - not very often! probably clean it all tomorrow though seeing as I've just moved them so want to stick around when they first go in the school....

my bridle cost a tenner, its the cheapest nastiest leather ever, but it comes up so nice when i clean it, so i do it obbsessively.....

as for my saddle its synthetic so after every ride, just a quick spray and its done. i hated synthetic tack until i experienced synthetic tack cleaning!

Hehe, my bridle gets done when it rains...actually I lie, it rained last Sunday and its been in the back of the car ever since - everytime I ride I say 'oh, better take it home' It is very brittle!!!

Saddle is synthetic, so gets wiped...hmmm....once in 4 years.

Lol i usually clean it when its pleeding for mercie or when i go to a show, i keep my showing tack inside for shows lol!! also i have just found out that saddle soap is the best cleaner for putting shine on and suppleness!!
as for synthetic, i wish they were confortable because i use them for hunting and all i do is through it in front of the arger to dry...how easy lol!

im a clean freak, and do my bridle, breastplate etc, everytime i ride

Don't the BHS manuals say to clean it daily? Mind you, they also say to strap a horse daily, and we all do that, don't we...?

I clean my tack ALWAYS before a show or lesson. Cleaning my new saddle every time I ride but thats because its new and I want it to look shiny!!!

I love cleaning tack. I search out tack to clean. I once thought of advertiseing to do other peoples.

I think as i have to look after it so well as it has to last a lifetime i do realy care for it. My old mare has the same things as when i got her 25 years ago. I could not afford to replace any but it all looks like new. No i don't have a life

. I was about to say I haven't had my saddle long so it hasn't needed to be cleaned yet, but actually I've had it 16 months now

. I have better things to do with my time, and Chex doesn't care

Zalacca - you're right! I now feel so guilty (I'm a when it gets stiff vote) that I'm gonna have to clean bl**dy tack tomorrow! Pocket, go and write out 500 times I must not post things that make fellow forum members feel guilty!

When I first bought Tyler it was cleaned every Sunday, then it was every second Sunday. Now, I have a synthetic saddle for kicking around in so it diesnt really get cleaned. The leather saddle is stored away safely and my bridle gets cleaned when ever I get a chance.

Slapped wrists!!!
