How often do you clean your tack?

clean saddlecloth everytime i ride . after riding i wash the bit and clean the bridle and the girth everytime-do i get a gold star??:D:D

In summer clean cloth every time I ride as he works hard and gets very sweaty. Tack cleaned every time I ride - can I have a gold star too? :D

Saddle cloths are washed every time they're used, and every day tack is wiped over with a cloth, and then has a quick wipe over with Horseman's One Step, and the bit is cleaned.

Once a week everything is taken apart, bit and stirrups soaked, everything scrubbed, oiled, soaped and then covered with leather balsam.

That's all tack for my four, and all my liveries.

I have a tack cleaning obsession....

i too have a tack cleaning obsession:rolleyes: i was in my element when i had 9 horses but im down to one riding horse now so NEED to clean more tack my YO helps me out by letting me clean her filthy dirty tack-:eek:

I get a black mark then. Saddle clothes changed every time or maybe use them twice. Wash girth and bit after every ride.

Um :o bridle once a month (at most) unless I'm competing in which case it gets a thorough clean :o:o (does get wiped down if sweaty)

Saddle - was as above but have got synthetic saddle for my new boy as he's changing shape so much so decided to wait a year before I get a proper one (or maybe by then he'll fit my lovely saddles).

Thank god for Nicnac - I was feeling a bit :o I'm probably the same.

Archiepoo I have spare stables - you can have one for free......;)

thanks honey08 your just a little too far for me to travel but if ud like to post me ur stinky tack i will enjoy cleaning it and get it back to you asap:D:D

I seem awful comapred to everyone else! Feel so guilty:o tack taken apart and cleaned usually every 1-2 weeks, numnah changed every few rides, sometimes longer. Im sure some of you would kill me that i went swimming on the beach yesteday and didnt take tack off, so had a lovely salty dry saddle to clean today

Wash bit/girth after every use.

Wash saddle cloth/numnah weekly (this depends on how sweaty Lexi gets)

Wipe tack over with NAF Leather Clense Spray every couple of uses.

Take tack apart, clean and condition monthly.

Numnah, every few weeks, I don't ride that much, so probably after every 5/6 rides..
Bridle and saddle every week or two or when theyre dirty really.. bit gets a clean every two-ish rides.

Wow I feel guilty

Gosh I am terrible! I only do saddle and bridle when they look a bit dusty or in need of balm when looking dry but that is a proper strip down. I do change numnah about every two rides as he sweats like a beast and it stinks! Have realised girth can tolerate washing machine so that's going to get done with numnah from now on :-)

I use those tack cleaning wipes on my bridle after every ride, fab and so easy, then get the soap out once a fortnight or so ? Bit washed after each ride too.

Synthetic saddles are a godsend !

Girth after every ride, hose down, and numnahs after every few rides.

not often enough

embarrassed to say my mares tack is green as its been stored for a year with her lami.

show stuff i have in my wardrobe , i have bridle hooks in there so less risk to theft as its the special stuff

After every ride & also when I'm bored :D I have 3 saddles so I have many opportunities to alleviate boredom ;) Also clean other peoples' tack for fun if they ask :P

Bits are dunked, saddle pads hung to air.

Dirt and hair brushed from girths and pads when dry.

Buckles - all two of them, and rawhide ties are checked when bridle goes on, it would be somewhat annoying if a tie were to come undone and the bridle fall apart.

Tack, cleaned? Never.

Reins are rope, bridles (what there is of them ---> headpiece and sliding ear) may get wiped very occasionally with a bit of oil, saddles are synthetic.

I have done the tack cleaned after every use thing on various yards, I loathe tack cleaning, which is why for donkeys years I have always used synthetic tack for my own horses, leather bridles only came out for hunting or shows.

Bits dunked every time, saddlecloth either brushed off or set aside to wash depending on state of each one.

All tack quickly rubbed over with saddlesoap after use if been out in the wet (takes no more than 10 mins max)

Every Sunday full strip of tack & saddlecloths washed too.

I dont 'usually' ride Mon - Weds, hence the strip & clean on a Sunday :)

Depends on what we've done! Will normally clean it every other ride but if it's muddy/sweaty/wet then it will be cleaned then. Saddlecloths are cleaned once a week or if they're dirty or sweaty.

Slightly more often than I wash my car?

Saddle could do with a more regular clean, I think, but it's OK. I don't use a saddlecloth, I use a lambskin pad, and horse is not the sweaty kind, so mainly it involves shaking the dust out of it. Girth is synthetic, and I just brush loose hairs and dust off it, again he's not sweaty, so not much to do. Stirrups and leathers are synthetic, they get the occasional wipe. No bit, and reins are endurance rope type, so get chucked in the washing machine when they look a bit dirty. Bridle is the thing that gets cleaned most often, and that would be every 3 or 4 weeks.

Seriously, does nobody else have a clean non sweaty horse? After a whole afternoon of Le Trec including very steep hills on the POR, he was barely damp under his tack? Galloping up and down the beach for several hours, not even damp... I get a little grease build up on the inside of the browband and noseband, but that's really it... and he doesn't get groomed much either :o. Is he unique? Should I patent him? :D

I clean my tack properly once a fortnight, bit gets wiped every use. Saddle cloth gets aired and washed when it looks mucky. My horse is a right sweaty beast! I need to but more saddle pads as I only have 2!

Every time you ride😳 gosh, proof that people with too much free time do actually exist😄😄😄
I clean my bits with a sponge after every ride, numnahs when they look a bit minging and tack every once in a blue moon, I do wipe down my bridle and girth with a damp cloth if they've been sweaty.

Thinking about it I hardly ever see people at my yard cleaning tack either unless they're off to a show or pony club😳

Not really, takes 5 minutes to dampen a sponge, rub it in the saddle soap and then wipe over the tack! I don't take my bridle apart every day, probably every 1-2 weeks depending on weather as I condition it then too.

Omg I feel bad now normally do my saddle roughly once a month!!! Bit after every ride and bridle about once a week as gets dusty and swallow poop on it!!!! Must do saddle more often..... Best saddle soap to use????
