OK, your horse is fit and you are out and about. How often do you compete and does your horse go better when you compete regularly or does your horse prefer to go out once a month or whatever. Just interested.

I tend to do something most week-ends although ease off considerably if ground firms up. My mare is perhaps best if fresh and my gelding is better for competing more often.

At least twice a month or he gets to be an @rse lol.

Would love to do every week but my husband would divorce me, my kids would leave home (hmmm!!) and I would be bankrupt!!!

We're out every week, alternating between BD & BSJA with an occasional xc training day / bit of jumpcross if I'm bored with being alive...

The pony goes out ccasionally, say no more than 2x a month when there's lots on and he's fit, or he throws in the towel
.Big lad goes out when and doesn't seem to make a difference, he's calmer if he's out more but no real difference

we go when I can fit it in with work, we didn't go for three weeks and this week we've been out Monday and Saturday at dressage, Thelly likes going out as often as we can I think, she loves parties, I asked a friend to turn her out Saturday morning for an hour before we needed to get ready and when I got there she was chunnering to come in, so she must have known! Today, she was right at the bottom of the field with her boyfriend as usual. Maybe she is psychic(sp) as well as psycotic!

She is no different in her tests whether we go often or occasionally.

Depends, in the summer less, hubby goes drag racing (he drives the borrowed HGV Horsebox as I have not got my license!!

I usually compete every weekend, although I have 2 horses on the go (and never take them both to one event) so 1 horse doesn't usually do every single weekend - it depends what's on. It usually works out that each horse competes 2 weekends a month and during the summer they'll have a lesson and maybe an evening BSJA as well.

I compete more on a horse if I feel he needs it. For example, I have one doing BE and BSJA - he's doing fine at comps so I dont over-do. So right now, Im cutting back on the BSJA because I think the BE things he's doing are enough for him right now. Whereas my other horse who's a youngster has had quite a few times off because of my other horses competing, so now Im concentrating more on getting him out especially to XC's.

It does depend very much on the horse I think. But it does help if you have more than 1 on the go! I used to have just 1 and would happily compete it pretty much every weekend all summer and probably twice a month during the winter.
