how often do you disinfect brushes/headcollars... ?

i do brushes when i have the time, saddlecloths when they are dirty wich is quite often :p
headcollars when they are quite dirty and same with boots

numnahs almost every time I use it, brushes very rarely, headcollars....posh one gets a wipe over every couple of uses, everyday one never! everyday tack normally once a week, show tack after every use

when dirty, brushs all horses have own sets and have a show set as well so only about every 3 mths, as she has a saddlecloth for each day of the week at least have lots of choice.

Don't disinfect anything but then we have not had any infectious diseases on the yard.

Grooming kit tends to get washed once a year.

Polypads, girths, rugs and boots get washed when necessary. In summer when they sweat a lot the washing machine seems to be on all the time filled with polypads and boots.

My tack I try to clean every week. I put the saddle cloths, headcollar & leadrope in the big horseware bag and put it in the washing machine every week. My brushes I normally bring home on a Sunday and hose them all through :) Wish my house was as clean he he

Brushes get disinfected weekly (Horses are kept with goats and chickens, so just to be careful)
Tack and headcollars get cleaned weekly, though tack gets wiped down quickly after each use
Saddle cloths are changed after each use because he's a sweaty boy.

If I buy nice things I want them to stay in their 'as new' condition, plus if stuff gets out grown or I buy a replacement, that way you get more on ebay :D

Disinfect? Urmm? never *hangs head in shame*

polypads and boots don't get washed now either as i broke the machine and OH won't let them in there now. Do the wash bag thingies actually work. I am buying a lot of numnahs right now and then using the backs of them too. Such a skank.

...........you're meant to disinfect brushes? I can't even remember washing any......! But they are all replaced on a fairly regular basis.

Jesstickle - my OH says that yes those bags do work, they're very expensive BUT they are fantastic.

Jesstickle - I have I huge orange bag and it works so well! Just make sure you empty it outside, because I always end up with lovely hair balls

Brushes when they get all dirty and muddy.
Numnahs quiet often.
Bits after every ride.
Boots when dirty or off to a show.
Headcollars when very dirty

I do exactly as above minus the disinfectant, and headcollars, I just buy new ones when they get really bad lol. Never thought to clean them or use disnfectant! *hangs head in shame at utter blondeness lol*

Does anyone's OH want to testify to my OH that they work? I suggested one after I broke the machine and he just pulled a face at me. Fair enough of course but now I am scared to approach the subject again. Hehe.

I tend to wash brushes on the first sunny day of the year!!!! Other than that, only if they are really dirty!

I dont wash headcollars.....

I wash saddle clothes when they need it....

I havent disinfected anything since I was on a yard with strangles 8 years ago!

"Disinfect???"! Never (although I would if he was exposed to infectious diseases/ringworm etc).
Brushes get washed with horse shampoo in the spring. Numnahs washed every week or thereabouts depending on sweatiness/muddyness! Use Vanish on the white competition ones. Brushing boots washed in warm soapy water once a week or so. Tack cleaned once a week, or before competitions and lessons. Meticulous about washing bit after every use - just bought a secondhand one from Ebay and it was FILTHY when it arrived - how can people do that?! Rugs sent off in early summer for washing/reproofing, although I use a Rambo Duo so the liners get washed at home occasionally through the winter.

Each horse has their own brushes, headcollars etc so don't routinely disinfect.

Bits washed and leather girths cleaned after every ride - only fair on the horse and stops rubs
Boots and saddlecloths brushed off - washed if needed.
Rugs shaken out when taken off, light ones and coolers washed if grubby.
Brushes washed when dusty and dirty - and I have a couple of spares if they aren't dry when needed again (my mares are grooming fanatics - they'd like to be brushed all day long if they could be).
Tack usually a couple of times a week, more if it gets wet - I hate stiff tack especially reins

and if it's a good drying day, there's a huge temptation to get the whole lot done!

Grooming kit gets cleaned out fortnightly although only disinfected monthly. Saddle cloths are washed weekly, tack is wiped over after use and given a good clean weekly, headcollar is brushed weekly and washed monthly :)
