Just wondering - I've been riding since I was 6 (on and off) and have only fallen off five times in my life, but I know some people who hit the deck nearly every time they ride! I think it's because I've always been nervous, so I won't get on anything that's likely to misbehave and I won't do anything like big jumps or galloping until I know I'm absolutely ready for it!

Been riding since I was 8, am now 35 and fallen off once or twice!

second time being totally plastered out hunting, on way home dropped my stick so got off to get it, got back on and fell off the other side, not a good look!!!!

I think if I showjumped I would fall off alot more, I just chose to do hunting/hacking type activities which I find don't really involve much falling off?

Did jump someones very green horse a few mths back, it did a massive catapult over the jump and was so close to falling off!! So my theory is, its jumping that causes falls lol!

Not very often but at the moment have significantly upped my average! Once or twice a year usually but at the moment we are in July and already upto 5!

Cant really blame horse either just my usual balance deficiancy which seems to kick in now and again.

I second that, every blooming time I come off it's when jumping. Not over the damn fence mind you, it's the rodeo's after, before or in between.

Yes lol, hubby is alot more adventurous than me, he's fallen off twice in the last few months JUMPING! Well the youngster had discovered its all very exciting and either broncs on way to jump or has a complete bronc after a high jump, usually the broncs after that get him off! haha.. its jumping I tell you!

I've been riding almost 8 years and have fallen off about 8 times but only a few of them have caused injury. Have done pretty well considering some of the horses i've ridden - developed a bit of a sticky bum :p:D

God only knows how many times I've fallen off lol! Been riding for 21 years and lost count a long time ago. Touch wood I've only come off Bonzo twice, but I ride quite a lot of different horses other than my own including breakers. I'm a lot stickier now than I used to be (mainly due to a succession of sharp young TBs), but that just means that when I do hit the deck it tends to be a bl**dy sore one. Trying to think of the last time I took a tumble, think it might actually have been a really silly one involving a very abrupt stop and scoot to the side at the top of the gallops but that would have been May and can't believe I'd not have fallen off since then...

agree with the jumping theory! i hadn't fallen of since i started riding (2ish years ago) then fell jumping a month ago got back on took him over jump again and ... fell off again!!! have never been close to falling off otherwise. have seen lots of falls jumping and only one non-jumping. (a family member fell off when trotting in a straight line... i shouldn't laugh! hehe)

i've been riding all my life and have ridden a wide variety of horses, i fell off quite a bit as a reckless kid but like i said i was reckless and fearless! :D

the last time i fell off was in 2003, that was a nasty one as i was knocked unconcious and broke my collar bone and ribs. before that the (next) last time i came off was in 1995. i've got a sticky bum when it comes to riding and i don't like falling off so i do all i can to stop it from happening! lol.
funny enough though the 2 times mentioned above that i fell off i was jumping, my iron levels were down (found out later) but i fainted before i went over the jump which was the cause of me falling off, the dr said it could have been the adrenaline rush making me black out.

I only tend to fall of once a year - just to check that I still bounce! This year, so far, it was a fresh TB racehorse that hadn't been out of it's box for 2 weeks through injury and he bronced and plunged down the road. I stayed on 15 or 16 of them but then the sod put in a couple of twists that just scewered me out of the saddle on luckily onto the grass verge! Last year it was on my Shetland. I had put him in a pelham for the first time in over a year and he was concentrating that hard he forgot to check where his feet were and tripped over them doing a sumersault!

For all the racehorses I ride and all the ponies I break and school I rarely actually come off them *touches wood*.

My moto is - I have no fear of falling off, it's the hitting the ground I am scared of!

I fell off once last year (on an endurance ride but don't ask me what happened because I never regained the memory after being knocked unconscious xD) but as it stands this year I've fallen twice (once rodeoed in the show ring and one silly silly beginner style fall from a spook out hacking):cool: Have yet to fall off Maisie though :D

I once fell off a particulary sharp horse 3 TIMES in one hack. Was alot younger then thank god. I haven't (touches all wood) come off my current horse yet but did have a nasty rotational 2 years ago off a so called schoolmaster.

Technically I've 'fallen' off a few times over the years. I have, however, been 'ejector seated' quite often! Does that count as falling off? I'm not sure anyone could survive some of the centrifugal forces involved with some of the ninja moves performed by my boys. But I could just be a rubbish rider that falls of quite a lot. Hmmmmm.

I'll third that lol, dislocated my shoulder when the horse sent me over the jump first:rolleyes:
used to fall off loads as a teen, but then we used to play silly buggers and the little mare i rode used to love going from gallop to stop and dropping a shoulder just to tip you out the side door, used to find it funny back then:rolleyes:
Now i'm a bit more careful, even tho my butt is fatter it doesn't seem to provide more cushioning so i try to avoid landing on it:D

I've had my cob for about 2 years now and have fallen off.... twice I think!
The 1st time we ever jumped 3ft... massive cat leap, lost stirrups and slid off on landing, nice soft landing in the sand school!
The 2nd time we were at a jump league and his inner devil child came out.... bronc bronc bronc handbrake turn.... splat onto the stone chips!

I'd never been to hospital since the day I was born until mum bought her horse.... he's a little norwegian fjord with ATTITUDE and we don't get on. He's sent me packing too many times to remember the worst of which ending in a broken collar bone, bruised ribs and most recently concusion!

I had my 1st Shetland pony when I was 10 and I backed her... We bought her as a wild 2 year old and I'd never owned a ony before so it was like the blind leading the blind and I would love to know how many times I fell off her but 7 years later she's on permenant loan as the best damn lead rein pony you could ever wish for and is doted on by the little girls that look after her.
Since then I've backed a few more Shetlands and they certainly keep you on your toes (especially my current project!) but I have developed a velcro backside and general stick quite well during their wobblies!

The hardest part of riding is the ground!

The last time was a couple of years ago and it was a dirty drop of the shoulder whilst doing a fairly brisk canter -
I wouldn't even like to guess as to how many times in total, I've been riding over 20 years and fell off a LOT as a child :D

Have came off a few times and rode a variety of horses who were at times a bit challenging shall we say ! Been riding over 20 yrs and mainly came of sharp youngsters. My first fall, i was about 6 yrs old it was from a shetland, my first experience if being winded:o not pleasant
My own warmblood when a baby got me out the front and side door 5 times in the one schooling session,he could hump that back and corkscrew like lightning. The funniest was at a walk, we had stopped and he dropped his head to scratch, then as the other horse moved on, he was still scratching, tried to walk and tripped, out the front door i went as i had no horse at the front of me lol..... The only time ive came off at a standstill.:D

Think it has been about 8 years since I fell off a friend's naughty welshy - he was behaving SO well (for once) that I forgot it wasn't my boy and relaxed; one broncing fit and a dropped shoulder later....

It's been 10 years or more since I fell off my own horse - I should have come off a number of times and had a couple of very hairy moments xc, but he always 'saves' me :)

AGREED!

I never used to fall off very often but since getting my little horror of a horse my average has gotten worse. :p

I've had him about 8 months and have fallen off 4 times.

Depends what I am up to.

When I was at breaking yard (TBs) all the time. Off of BH, well, it hasn't happened yet. Nits will need backing soon and I guess that will increase my odds.

I thought I was doing quite well with my current boy, I fell off once when I first got him as he had no saddle so I rode bare back, yeah that was a great plan on a spooky 5 year old that had never been in the arena before, he spooked at something in the hedge, I had no neck strap and he had no withers = dafthoss eating sand . Then he put in a nasty stop at a show and spun round as he did it = dafthoss eats the grass, in my defence he had never stopped with me before that so I was rather optimistic and didnt jump him like he was a baby. Then we both hit the deck on friday as he landed in a heap after a jump, a show jump I may add so I'm not quite sure how that happened and mum had just stopped videoing so I will never know. But before I got him I hardly ever hit the deck and I think the last thing was a section a doing a hand stand.

I haven't yet fallen off my boy and I've had him for four months now, although, we have just started jumping, so I'm thinking of mentally preparing myself

I have fallen off a horse I was learning to ride on, but that was literally because the girth wasn't done up tight enough so we went into canter and I was kind of centrifuged off the side. I was more concerned about moving the saddle off the horses side than the fact that I'd landed on my shoulder (I was a bit stiff the day after :o )

I've been riding 3/4 years on and off. With a break in-between. And to this day, I've never fallen off :o Which is quite disappointing, because no one believes you when you tell them. Ah well, im sure my dad will come :P

I've been riding just over 10 years and fallen off three times, well twice properly, third time I forgot to take my foot out of the stirrup and just flopped on the floor! I try not to fall off, I can be nervous and don't do anything I'm not comfortable with so that probably reduces the risk. I like to think I'm fairly sticky too but that's not been thoroughly tested and I don't want it to be!
