How often do you hoover?

Tassy is shedding at the moment and the hoover is out 3/4 times a week (every other day)- she fills a whole Dyson cylinder each time! I used to hooer just 2 x a week before she was shedding. How much do you end up hoovering to keep on top of the hair?
 
At least once a day, with two siberians and a malamute in the house it needs it even when none are blowing
When a coat is being blown 2-3 times a day more if I sit and have a plucking session in the evening

wow- are yours in the house during the day? Tassy is out from 7.30am till 5pm monday to thursday- so perhaps thats why its not so bad? I hope she doesn't get worse- i'm worried the hoover will die with all that hair in it!!

Yep, she's an escape artist so in the absence of a proper kennel and run (lord how I'd love one!) she's in the house with me during the day and confined to the kitchen for the few hours I'm out. One bedroom and the kitchen have laminate which I'd much prefer as it doesn't show the hairs nearly as badly but the living room has a dark blue carpet which contrasts perfectly with white hairs... :rolleyes:

I use a Dyson Animal and even that sputters and threatens to die occasionally. :eek:
 
I've wanted to ask this question for ages and been to embarrassed! :o :D
I hoover twice a day every day!

Yes all three live in their choice, they have as much access to outside as they wish
I got into hoovering at least once a day 6 years ago when the first one came home, its even worse in the winter when we trail in mud from the forests after training lol lol

wow I feel like my house must be dirty in comparison doing it only every other day!! Unless you all have more than one woofer. I think its because we have cream carpets and Tassy's hair is cream- so you cant see it! Friday, Sunday, Tue, and Thursday are hoover days- sad I know because i've allocated days :(

I've wanted to ask what people do to remove doggy smells in the house but was too embarrassed to ask also in case people thought I had one of those smelly sour dog houses! :p

In any case, a combination of daily hoovering/febreeze/plug ins/smelly candles seems to work. Tempted to try Shake 'n' Vac on the living room carpet. :p

Hahaha love smelly candles

You dont need to worry BC siberians only smell when they are wet, they are not a smelly breed as a rule, my parents often remark on how they can never smell dog in our house whenever they visit

Tassy actually doesn't have a smell- I hope thats normal? You cant smell her unless she gets wet. We don't really bath her either - its odd though as other than her hair you would not know we had a dog. (someone's going to tell me now that it means there is something wrong with her!! )

My friend uses incense when no-one's home and when they come back it smells really nice- not sure if thats worth a go?
 
No don't! Shake and vac is not pet friendly!!
Neutradol do a good carpet powder hoover up job that is similar but safer......and works better IMO.
 
Every other day, although I own a mini schnauzer which doesn't cast. In M's house where the labs are, floors get brushed once a day as the downstairs is a combination of tiles and wooden flooring.

Eeep, I didn't know that! I hear plain old bicarb of soda does the same thing anyway.

Cyrus you're right, she doesn't really smell (apart from a sort of vague 'there's a dog in the house' pleasant fur smell) but when she comes back from a wet walk she scoots herself all over the carpet before I can attack her with a towel. :mad:
 
I also sweep the wooden floors and slate floor, the only carpeted area is the stairs I did them today, but im not admitting to when they where last done:eek: but I will say, I did not know how to get the cylinder thingy out of the dyson:o OH showed me how:eek::D
 
Erm...is it bad that I only hoover once or twice a month, if that? Tessie sheds constantly, as did Mickey(a jrt type) and Gemma(a samoyed) before her but we've never really had a hair problem. We do sweep the carpets every week though. We don't have a doggy smelling house either...am I just lucky?
 
Not as often as i should.:o At least every other day though, and daily when they are both moulting. A lot of the floor is quarry tiled but still run the good old vax over it rather than brushing, never seem to be able to control the hair with a brush.

I do change the throws on the sofa fairly regularly and febreze when people are coming round...:o:o

*blushes* It used to be once/twice a week, but before we had the building work done, the house was hideous. Hadn't been decorated in 30 years (thirty) and it showed, so was never that fussed over dog hair *filthy*

However, now the builders are moving out and we've bought our nice (white) kitchen and a nice new (cream) sofa, I suspect I'm going to get 100000% more uptight about paw prints and hair.

PMSL - glad I'm not the only one pretending to be John Wayne *insert Western music here*

Sweeping happens most days, but we get the Vax out when the tumbleweed gets too out of control :D

My husband has just said he could plant potatoes on our stairs! Better get the Dyson out today. Sadly no-one else does in this house!
 
Good thread!!!

I hoover most days but only once and then mop. We have laminate and slate - best thing we ever did was to rip up our downstairs carpets - thats what holds the doggy smell.

Bicarb is fab at getting rid of nasty niffs - I cant use air freshener type things as they make me wheeze but bicarb is really good!
