as title really how often does your school need leveling and how many use it a day. i am at a livery that has awesome hacking, fab turnout, 24 hr turn out all summer, great stables and a indoor school that is slightly on the small side but would be perfectly fine if it was looked after more, Its a soft sand with rubber on top surface and roughly at least 4 people use it a day and we very lucky if its done once a week i can only use it 2 days after it done then its to bad for me to take my boy in there its driving me nuts. Thanks for your help

my one at home gets done as it needs it (once every wk) it really depends on how much work I do on it and who I ride bizarrely enough my 16.3hh 3/4 tb churns it up more than my 16hh ish mare when doing flat work (go figure ). My dad usually does it as hes amazing :D and so much more efficient at it than me :p but hes managed to sneak off to meetings abroad without doing it for me :p:) so think Im going to have to rope the bf into it this wknd! It gets used about 8 times a wk I think & its got a great sand, fibre and rubber surface. I think also the size makes a difference, mines 50x25m I would imagine the corners on a 40x20m would get deeper quicker.

There are 12 liveries and normally 4 training horses in the yard at anyone time.

School is used by 5 or so people a day

Large Roundpen is used by 6 or so people a day

Small roundpen by 2 people a day

All three are leveled daily either last thing at night in winter or first thing in the morning in summer.

I guess we are just very lucky :-)

How often does it need doing? Daily but it gets done once/a couple of times a week max. Approx 5-7 horses ridden on it a day, sand and rubber surface although currently very low on the rubber!!

mine isnt one here :/ 7-10 horses on it per day and was leveled once every few months if they could be bothered... im not there now im at a yard with no school the the riding field is rolled everyone couple weeks :)

Yard im at atm arenas are rolled every morning and afternoon. If their a bit dry their also watered. If theres a show there rolled before and after. Their sand and carpet/fibre surfaces, very nice indeed!!

I'm not sure (that's bad!). Once every couple of weeks I think. We tend to dig in the sides, then tell the YM that we've done it and she'll go and level it all.

I think that, on average, eight horses use it most days.

When I can pursuade my dad... Once a month ish --- only me using it to ride 1 cob and ground work for a sec a... It's terrible but it's all mine!! (well we have one livery but her horse has been lame since may... When she used it dad did it once a week (favouritism that's what I call it:( )

I harrow at least twice a week, usually more often and always after it has been used, have to, otherwise the grass grows for a start.

Not that it is a proper arena, I couldn't possibly afford that, it is just an acre or so of tilled and harrowed field.:o

Level the school?! We should be so lucky... Thank goodness for a very tolerant surface that doesn't usually need much attention

Same here, our YO is so lazy, nothing gets done

2 to 3 times a week, as required! sometimes more sometimes less dependant on use, whether we have loose schooled/jumped, lunged. my leveller has a bit you pull out to grade the sides.

As and when its needed. It can go for a week if not many people have ridden on it or done every day if it needs it. I am very lucky and gutted to be moving but hope we enjoy our new yard as much and we can go back home in the holidays :).

It's a major bone of contention as there are those of us who are fussy with regard to the surface we wish to work our horses on and others on the yard who are mainly happy hackers and do not school or do not realise what a good surface is! It drives us fussy ones mad as it is not done often enough and during dry weather is can become horribly deep and a deep track around the outside! How I hate trying to ride into corners where you have to ride up and over the ridges!!!

Just me schooling once a week and lunging once a week but they also go on it to roll or sleep as open all the time. I grade it once a week regardless as topping not v deep so needs to be kept level

Haven't voted as there isn't an option for never! Its a horrible school, my main reason for wanting my own transport then I can get the hell out of there! Fingers crossed should be mobile in a few weeks then the hunt for a lovely school begins.

At 65k we do ours every week, im really fussy about keeping ours in good condidtion, id say the money its costs to do keep it in good nick is a lot less than a new arena,

We have to rake ours be hand after riding, pretty much straight after we've ridden, as in we cannot ride one horse in the morning then leave it and ride another in the afternoon then rake it. So in that case you have to do it twice a day. Could understand if everyone rode in the school all the time but they don't only a handful of people actually use it a few times a week.

Actually ours gets harrowed/levelled twice a day, every day . . . we share it with the polo team (it's actually theirs) so they harrow it when they've finished practice in the morning and YO's OH harrows it at the end of every day.

The school does get a fair bit of use . . . aside from the polo, it's probably used six or seven times a day for flat and jump schooling - horses and ponies - sometimes just one or two and sometimes up to 10 (it is huuuuuuuuge).

P

There are 17 horses/ponies at our yard. YO is abit OCD (in a nice way) Like her yard to be spotless. She levels indoor and outdoor everyday without fail. :)

Love our yard<3
