How often do you ride your happy hackers

We do a bit of low level competing but we’re also happy hackers. We hack 4 x a week roughly, sometimes we mooch on the buckle end and do stretching, sometimes we do schooling excercises where I ride transitions and vary speed within the trot and canter on the safe verges. Love a pub ride, even in winter. And sometimes we load up and go to a local wood or Bridleway for a change of scenery. We like to keep it varied x

It was 3-4 times a week before the clocks changed but now I take what I can get and do 30 mins schooling in the field once a week. Last weekend we had gales on Sat so I went out on Sun but everywhere was so icy I had to turn back. Pony is happy enough.

This is a miserable time of year because of the sheer lack of daylight-hours. I'm fortunate in that I keep mine at home and only work part-time (YO the rest of the time!!) but it's still difficult finding the time.

I'm tending to box up and go 10 mins up the road to the nearest piece of open ground (pebblebed heath) as can shove the dog in the back and give both a good run!

Am not tending towards fast work at the moment, am more doing a nice forward walk for fittening with the occasional canter - not so much trotting. We are barefoot so at this time of the year hooves are more inclined to be sensitive as are more moist.

Usually go for about an hour; say 3 X times a week if we're lucky? And at weekends we sometimes do a herd hand-walk (like we did this morning) as there are horses on the yard needing to re-hab and as mine is an excellent Nanny we go with them. Nice to walk in hand, makes a change!

Yeah I’ve not been out for several weeks now. I will go a hack if weather allows at the weekend. I don’t think I will stress until better daylight hours and then start a fitness plan.

I hack like a child too Saddlesore :D It's the best way! I left this morning for a ride & got back 3 hours later after plenty of puddle splashing.

We tend to aim for 5-6 days a week in the summer & 4-5 in the winter.

At this time of year we tend to do one or two shorter hacks (in the dark), one or two schooling session in the school and then either two longer hacks at the weekend or a long hack and something like Trec, a lesson or a clinic.

In the summer, we mainly hack (with just the odd schooling season in the week ?) & as many fun things like TREC, organised rides where possible. We tend to hack further afield in the lighter evenings & hoping to do more next summer!

We're lucky to have off-road road hacking, a good bridle/byway network & horse friendly pubs which make all the difference, I think!

5 times a week at the minute. Very very boring walk fittening work. I too am a hack like a child person, so getting horses fit from scratch bores me to tears! This is to get my riding horse fit so necessary, the semi retired happy hacker comes along with my friend to make it a bit more interesting! He normally does as and when. He can do 5 times a week or 0 times a week. Thats the beauty of being a happy hack, you can ride when you want and leave it if you dont fancy it

About twice a a week in winter and more in summer, mostly road work as no decent offroad riding near us. But have trailer so hope to travel regularly to forest soon (when friends horse guarantees to load!).

I've just started working again after years off so it varies between 0 and 3 times a week just now depending on my health and the weather.
I'm definitely like a kid too when I'm out and a few weeks ago we went out without stirrups for a steady hack but pony was bouncing = in us going down narrow tracks weaving in and out trees and me laughing my head off as she puts her head down and whizzes off. I got home to find I'd ripped my jods and leg when it bounced off a tree.
I do try and do some schooling when I'm out too but it doesn't always happen. We find puddles to splash through, go to the beach and play in the water, find logs to jump.
That pony gets away with murder whereas I ensure my loan horse behaves and work on keeping her calm and relaxed.

I hack 5 days a week all year round. Maximum of an hour in the week as I ride early morning before work. Ride for up to 2 hours Saturday and Sunday. We also do BHS/hunt rides etc for a change of scenery.

I ride 5 days a week, usually hack 4 days and go for a lesson once a week so that we can do some schooling and pop a few jumps, if no lesson we hack 5 days. Do the same all year round but do opt out if the weather is really foul

Retired (me) and semi-retired horse aim for three one to one and a half hour sessions a week. Depends on the weather as to what we do. Hacking if we have enough light, schooling if not. Enough to prevent me from seizing-up, and him from going feral. So far.

Once the clocks change i can only ride at weekends ... and only if its nice. I rode yesterday but cant be bothered today as its horrible out there! Lat time i rode prior to yesterday was once last weekend. The joys of having them at home means i can do as little or as much with them being turned out 24/7!

During the summer i will ride 4-5 times a week and do some low level RC stuff if the mood takes me with the odd lesson thrown in.
