How often do you shoe your horse?

5-6 weeks throughout the spring and summer whilst competing as feet seem to grow faster when the weather is warmer and 6-7 weeks throughout winter when growth slows. I know some on our yard that go 3months between shoeings!

At Uni our Farrier (who is a master Farrier) says never leave longer than 8 weeks, and that's in you really have to.
I have my barefoot mares done every 6 weeks and would recommend 5-6 weeks for all.

The two in work are shod every 5 weeks (one has an issue with counter rotated pedal bones so important to keep on top of things) and my other mare who's turned away unshod is tidied up every 6-7 weeks.

Mine will now go 5-6 weeks since moving to a different place.

At our first yard I'd be lucky to get a week and a half before a shoe was thrown so she was technically having a new set every 4 weeks and her feet were an absolute mess.

Same farrier too, he can't believe how much better her feet have gotten.

One goes 6 weeks regardless the other can go up to 8. Although she could go for longer I think. Quite often the farrier will just trim her and put same shoes on.

Before his fall mine went 8wks, they were never loose or over grown but hed worn them out with all the miles we did. Hes now barefoot as had shoes removed after fal and due to be trimmed in the new year but will only get done if he will tolerate it. Vets have said being wormed amd feet trimmed are the least of his problems at the minute.

Generally every 5 weeks, unless something exceptional going on. Have however had one in the past that had to be attended to every three weeks....he was a bit of a special needs boy though! :)

Depends on the horse, I had one I used to book every eight weeks and even then he didn't look like he needed doing followed by a couple who would hardly last five weeks. Now, as I don't really hunt or compete anymore, I just call the farrier when they look like they need doing, however many weeks it happens to be and he can usually come within a day or two.

Every 5 weeks summer and winter to keep her toe short due to previous issues with ligaments and her sidebone. Keeps her sound, (touch wood) so not going to change. When I first got her it was 8 weeks and then down to 6 weeks, but she has been at 5 weeks for well over a year now.

every 5-6 weeks in the summer when his TB feet weren't at their best (with daily kevin Bacon's liberally applied) Then 6-7 weeks in the winter.

That said he had an annoying habit of throwing a shoe hoooning about in the field. Farrier was worth his weight in gold ;)

in the summer she goes 6 weeks otherwise she just pulls them. In the winter she has her shoes off. She got them off at the beginning of October & had a trim etc & hasn't had the farrier since. Her feet are still great.

She will get done probably mid January just out of course
