How often do you shoe your horse?

Depends on time of year and weather, but normally about 5 to 6 weeks, I have been using kevin Bacons Liquid Hoof Dressing every day for the last couple of months rain or shine, with success, as even with a good diet, his feet can be a bit difficult to keep in good order.

I wish it was every six weeks but my mare is pulling front shoes off right left and centre and im seeing farrier every two weeks at the moment...argghh

typically 4 wks when the grass is growing and 5-6 weeks during the winter months but it's mostly driven by his less than ideal fronts, the backs would go longer.

Every 6 weeks normally, although, he can go slightly longer as his feet don't flair out, they just grow straight down... his feet do grow very fast in the summer though, so he would end up walking around on stilts if I left him much longer than every 6 weeks.

When needed, and when the farrier is coming to yard and has time to do them. Can vary between 6 to 8 weeks.

They will be done when needed, but if they can last another week or two, then so be it :)

Its nice to see different timings mine is 6 weeks winter as he hunts and shoes off in summer it beggers belief when I hear of people loosing shoes before they call the farrier out my shoes cost £65 a set.

Horse in work and shod is done every 5weeks in the winter and every 4weeks in the summer. The other one is retired and barefoot, she gets a trim every 10-12 weeks.

It's good to see that everyone gets their horses feet balanced regularly, I get very concerned when people say they get the farrier when the shoes are clanking and coming off....the lack of consistent correct foot balance this must cause to the animal will be causing untold problems for its future. 6-8 weeks for a shod horse, never longer, but can be shorter.

In the summer, they both go 5 weeks, in the winter they get done every 4 weeks as my Appy doesn't go any further when Hunting and I get them done together to make things easier.

Every five weeks for three of them and J every four weeks as his feet come out balance quickly .
Fatty often needs doing every four weeks when he's hunting two days a weeks .
I never ever leave them more than five .

Mine gets done every eight weeks (front shoes only, bare on back) but il bring it forward a week or so if needed. An owner i know (horse shod all round)only gets the farrier out if she looses a shoe or if one is loose, then she gets a full new set, the horse has gone 15-16 weeks before now as it had a new set on when mine was done and then mine was done on his own, then theirs was done the next time he was shod, and the farrier was only booked because her shoes were clanking and she said 'oh her feet sound ready to be done again!'

5 weeks and farrier booked at the same time. Also means that most farriers are happier to help out in an emergency when they know it isn't down to leaving to the last minute.

Usually every 6 weeks, often 5 in the summer months.

My unshod one he looks at when he is here but he hardly ever touches her, I think she was lightly rasped twice this year just to neaten up the edges, she never grows any to trim as such. She has excellent hooves, I've never known one like her.
