I've been so pleased with my boy at recent shows! We're always in the rosettes, 2nd at a county show :) the thing is I general only ride when we arrive at the show. Which at the moment is once a week. Is this enough? Does anyone have any tips on what we should be doing weekly to boost out performance and fitness?

Thanks x

I'm no show rider, however I would have thought the fitter and therefore more balanced your pony is the better he will go at a show!

My friend shows in the hunter classes and her horses have one day off a week, a couple of days hacking, a few days schooling and a day of faster work a week.

My horse only gets one day a week off, he hacks and schools the rest of the time he does a minimum of 30 mins each time. You need a fit healthy and well schooled horse if you want a long term future for your horse, if you only ride him once a week you risk tendon problems, back problems, wind problems, Tying up etc
