How often do you shout or raise your voice when dealing with your horse?

My OH says I have a Sargent Major's voice, so when it's raised to that point my horses know they are in trouble, also the dogs and the OH. I don't like being barged or trodden on or having a horse either rear or kick out. Mind you my voice is worse than my bite.:D:D:D:D
 
Yup I do and Both my horses know that if i am raising my voice at them they ahve to stop what they are doing.

It works from the ground and undersaddle, I can roar at kia from the stables if he is chasing/kicking Eowyn in the field and he stops what hes doing and looks up as he knows if he doesnt Hes going to be the one getting chased/kicked if I have to come down there.

My sharer laughs as if I am telling Eowyn off and shes with Kia he reacts to what I am doing as well and behaves ;)
 
I don't shout at him as he's young and stupid and gets anxious and confused quite easily but I have my mothers school teacher voice. A good strong disapproving "NO" if he's trying his luck soon has him looking suitably told off - if it hasn't, I stand back, get his attention and say it again. If i've still had no impact, I raise a finger and wag it at him with the token "NO". Usually works!

I'd rather tell him off with my voice than take to smacking him - at the end of the day he's much bigger than me and if he takes to throwing himself around in objection to a slap, i'm *******ed!! :D
 
I am so glad I am not the only one who chats/sings whilst out riding, thought I was the only mad one! Lol. I always think it helps him relax, he does sometimes get a little tense when down the side of the golf club when some plonker tees off so I make sure he can't hear random noises by chatting. Hubby says I talk too much anyway, at least choccy doesnt complain or answer back!!! :) The ones who do baby voices though...they are truly nuts!
 
Not very often at all, the odd time he act like a complete idiot while riding and switches off, a short sharp "BOA" and he quickly comes back to earth and registers hes in the wrong. Otherwise the odd time in the fiels in the summer when he conviently cant hear me :rolleyes:
