Since my yearling is destined to be here forever, I suppose that I really should start getting her an education

How often do you take yours out to shows? I'm aiming for Futurity in August and would like her to be calm about the whole shows thing by then

I'm lucky to have one of those babies who takes everything in his stride (hence buying him!).

He's by far the bestest behaved horsey at the show grounds, standing like a saint munching his haynet, ignoring all sillyness and screaming. God I wish the adult horses would behave like him!

He'll be going to about 2 shows a month on average over the summer. If he found it stressful or exciting he'd be going to more until it looses it's novelty.

That's a lot for a yearling to take in. Most pro's don't do more than one a month if that many as it takes a lot out of a youngster to do or travel that much; they can easily get down and if they get down then it is much easier for them to pick up any bugs or snots that are doing the rounds.
While it's good to get them out and about, please don't overdo it for their sake.

Twice a month is a lot for a yearling; physically and mentally! The travel journey is hard going and they can easily get show down meaning they are just flat!

Our youngsters are allowed to enjoy life and we try and get them out only a few times if that so that they are fresh and on their toes. All of ours are well behaved with regards to traveling and whilst at the event but that is by good foundation handling and not by taking them to lots of shows!

Trust me, he will get flat and no horse ever wins when its flat!

i really only take my babies to 4 shows for the whole season. unfortunately 2 fall in the same week but i go the night before, book stables, theyve got plenty of time to sleep in the stable and time to get over it as the next one isnt till over a month later

I take mine to two plus the futurity & that is it.
First one tends to be a small local one - second one much bigger, then futurity or county.

I try and take mine to about 6 county shows over the Summer. It's great education for them, the travelling, staying over night and all the sights and sounds. As someone else said too many and they get flat plus they'd get tired. Pick your shows wisely as you don't want to be mowed down by a kid on a pony. The county and agricultural shows are best because their health and safety system is thought out properly, they have seperate walkways from pedestrians and keep the ridden classes away from the inhand.

Would normally do 2 or 3 over the summer, just to give them a bit of an education

we have 2 to show this year, so they may do less depending on which other ponies we decide to take LOL

Mine did one tiny RC type show, then a county - about 6-8 weeks apart. Next she will probably do the Futurity and the studbook show in August and October.

She may do a local agricultural show too. so that would make 5 between March and October.

If I show them (prefer to leave them till 2 or 3) I do 2 or 3 shows max. We tend to do county shows as more organised than little local ones so generally less daunting for a baby, and maybe the Futurity
