My boy is now on full loan, The lady had him on part loan first, then due to my circumstances has him on full. I went to see him yesterday and he looks well and seemed very happy in himself. She always updates me by phone, which am happy about. She had him on a 6 month loan. I wanted to see him before I renewed the loan. I have have had horses on loan and the owners have never come to see the horse, though never full loaned one of mine out. I dont want to appear to interfearing, but got the impression the loaner wanted a bit more imput from me going to see him. I am happy to see him more, though did feel quite sad after the visit as I do miss him but its not practacal for his intrests to have him back.
How often do people visit there horses that are out on loan.

My mare is on long term long to a stud. i go & see her 3 or 4 times a year formally. But as the yeard owner is good friends with my best friend I often drive past & look from the roadside another 3 or 4 times a year. But she is not that far from me & i am often in the area. The stud owner if fine & is alwasy happy for me to turn up announced or unannounced. I can't fault the way they keep her & i love peeking at all their foals :D

But i know someone who has had a horse on loan for 13 or 14 years & the owner has not been in touch once. She is now in a dilemma as when she wrote to them the letter was returned gone away! As he is an oldie (well in his 30's) she is a little worried about what to do "when the time comes".

I put my horse out on loan about 3 years ago. He was on loan to the family for nearly 2 years and they bought him last June (and still have him so all ended well!). Initially I went more regularly, maybe every couple of months and I had regular updates from them. They phoned me every day for the first fortnight then moved to regular text and email updates with pics. I trusted them 100% so I only really went maybe every 3-4 months to see him or if there was a problem. He went lame once so I went to see him then. Towards the end of the loan, I think I only saw him once in 5 months.

I am sure I will be shot down in flames on here for that but I trusted them 100%. They were always asking me to go more often!

The horse I have now is on loan, I've had him 2 years this August, and his owners haven't been to see him since the 2nd month of the loan. They never call or email and never respond to update emails, though they do respond to texts and will always get back to me if I call.
